Did a search and didnt see any posts on this so hopefully not a dupe.

This looks awesome and will be going on my AK.

Mount comes with the Burris Fast Fire optic. Not a bad price IMO.

I plan on slapping one to my AK. The UltimAK mount is amazing but it has the potential of heating an optic to failure--its happened to me. Unless u have a side rail, this is the best dot system for AKs.

Even though they take away from the "conventional" way an AK was designed to be used - w/ irons - THIS would definately be the red dot I's slap on at least one of mine if I ever decide to try that kind of setup. If Mark LaRue puts his name on it, it's going to be good gear.

I thought about this a few months back, and didn't come up with much info either. From what I have heard it is more solid than it looks. However I still don't know if it is strong enough for my Saiga .308? What do you think?

That sounds like a question for the sales team over at Larue. I would assume it is, but just to be sure I would email their staff.

I thought about getting one but it was the price I paid for my AK

Maybe if I had a custom arsenal or something.....

it reminds me of that slow-motion video on youtube.com of an AK firing. You can see the rear sight jumping around with every shot. I wonder if this dot could handle that kind of jostling.

whats wrong with the side mounted rails?

I have a quick release side rail and a halo sight on my AK...it is at least as accurate as the AK is....

Does it require any drilling? Can I readily use my iron sights?

I believe it is a drop-in and has its own rear sight built-in right in front of the red dot lens. These are getting very tempting.

No drilling. Remove rear sight. It installs in its place.

You need a special tool to remove the rear sight though correct?

I have one on my .223 saiga. The rear sight is built into the larue mount. I've only had the opportunity to shoot it at 25 yards and the irons seem pretty accurate. So far I'm pretty happy with mine. As soon as I get an AR mag adapter I'm going to take a class & test it out.

to remove the sight on an AK you'll need more than your thumb, unless you have some really strong hands its pretty hard to do. i use a press and press down the leaf spring and wiggle it out

I've used my thumb (yes, my hands are very strong), and I've also used a small piece of wooden dowel on a stubborn one or two.
