Since the 30-06 Garands are picky for ammo, how about the .308 Garands? Is there an equivalent .308 to M2 Ball thats widely available as surplus? Commercial?

.308 Garands are supposed to have their gas systems tuned / bleed-off valve installed to accomodate standard 7.62 ball ammo, are they not?

I use handloads, there are a couple of good recipes floating around for different bullet weights and powders, But if your going to use a bullet heavier than 168 its recommended that you use a adjustable gas plug to prevent damage to your op rod. The heaviest I go is 175 I dont have an adjustable gas plug I use a BM59 gas plug which is a non venting plug but it has a larger concave chamber and that works.I had mine built before the reg changes in the M1 Garand service rifle rules that allow you to use the adjustable plugs, "it aint broke dont fix it"

If you get the Schuster Adjustable Gas Plug you can put any ammo through your .308 or .30-06 Garand.
