Hi, I'm considering buying a Ruger Mini-30 since it seems to be a reliable long gun packing the punch of the 7.62 x 39 round. Tapco makes what appears to be a pretty cool conversion kit w/pistol grip, picatinny rail, and telestock:

But of course, these evil features make the conversion illegal in CA, unless there's a way to fix the magazine in place. I like the idea of the Ruger/Tapco kit because it seems to be a nice off-the-shelf solution for what I'm looking for, but does anyone have some suggestions for me to be able to use this solution with a fixed magazine, or a similar setup that doesn't involve a bunch of exotic parts and/or cobbling together a sketchy solution from a number of vendors?

Sorry for any ignorance on my part. I'm pretty new to all of this. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Somebody poasted a way to modify a Mini-14 into a fixed-mag status, which would have the same effect as using a BB on an AR. I'm sure you could use the same or a similar method for your Mini-30. I think you already mentioned it, but just a friendly reminder that you can't have a fixed mag that can hold >10 rounds in a centerfire semi-auto.

that kinda sounds like a rigged solution -- if I have to have a fixed mag, I want one I can replace in two seconds with a tool, not disassemble the trigger assembly to get to. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a semi-auto in the first place.
