I'm a little new to the AK game and I could use a little help. I have a WASR-22 in the 10 day waiting period and I'm looking around for new furniture for it. I haven't decided if I want some classic wood or go synthetic, but more importantly I'm not sure exactly what to look for to ensure the right fit.

Would this Romanian stock set (http://www.floridagunworks.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=FG&Product_Code=1510&Category_Code=AKA+AK+STOCKS) for a "stamped receiver" fit?

How about this KVAR synthetic stuff (http://www.dinzagarms.com/furniture/kvar/akbsl.jpg)?

I've used the search button and read other forums, but still not sure what kits I can order - or can I order any of them?! Thanks for any info you can provide!

I like the K-Var furniture myself.

Any furniture that will fit a stamped AK will fit your WASR22. If you need examples of WASR22's with different types of furniture on them, check out this thread.

So, I ordered some Kvar stuff and it's on the way! Does this stuff install easily with basic tools, or do I need anything special? I'm mostly concerned about the handguard, but any info would help. Thanks!

no tools needed for the handguard. The upper handguard just twists off and the lower comes off when you take it apart. The hardest thing will probably be getting the stock off but even that isnt much effort

I had a real hard time getting the buttstock on. You might have to lightly sand the end of the buttstock that slides inside the receiver.

Get Romanian "Takeoff" Military Laminate buttstock with trapdoor for toolkit that comes with rifle , Yugo M70 PG & bulgarian grip screw & nut and if you can an East German or Romanian swelled lower HG for the Real AKM look (All these Items are far cheaper than the plastic fantasic look ... And get the SOG mags (Southern Ohio Guns) AKMT-22 MAG which is a Weiger body with the Cugir 10 round plastic insert @19.95ea.

Excellent - thanks again for all the good info. I've already ordered the Kvar furniture, because I'm going for a more "AK-103" look - just need to get a AK-74 brake on the front to top it off. I have a Saiga as well, so between the two I want one with classic wood and the other more modern (but absolutely no AR stuff on it.) ...work in progress - fun to play with...

There are Mods that will help if you have Issues with Doubling or ejection issues and get a "Ribbed Topcover" for the AKM look also it is one of the first recomended items after furniture & mags to get ! Keep us (WASR 22 owners)Sposted

Didn't know about the "Ribbed Topcover" part - thanks for the heads up! Will post pictures as it evolves - still have a week or so before I can pick it up...

The Gas system is vacant also (rimfire blowback operation) so you will need to find a plug (I used a black rubber plug) to plug the hole abovre the breach to keep empties from gettin into vacant gas tube & rattlin around ! (There are lotsa tricks with these little beasts (Go to WASR 22 threads & pics at ar15.com in the Romanian section of their AK board and review all of the great info & mods ...)

I received the furniture from Kvar last night and noticed there is no hardware that comes with it. Since I don't have my gun yet, I can't check, but do I have the necessary nuts/bolts/screws in the "stock" setup to attach this stuff? I'm mostly concerned about the pistol grip and buttstock. I know the one that comes with the WASR is a single piece, but does it have the same hardware? Thanks!

Ack! Wish I knew that when I placed my order! Luckily they shipped my stuff ridiculously quickly, so I'll just place another order. Thanks for the info, BroncoBob!

No problem, I just wish they (K-Var) would make a statement to the fact you may need these parts with their furniture kits. I believe 69Mach1 alerted me to this when I was going through my furniture exchange.

Yeah, I just now noticed that some of the sets say "DOES NOT INCLUDE MOUNTING HARDWARE" ...but the one I ordered didn't have that disclaimer, which actually makes it even more misleading. Whatevs, all ordered now!

Have you looked into the Vast WASR 22 threads at ar15.com in the Romanian area of their AK secton (I highly recomen you go there ) I have almost 11.000 rounds through my WASR 22 and have been helped much by the insight & info there ...

Yep, I've read all that I can read and I'm looking forward to tweaking it when I get it in my hands. Unfortunately, little things like "Does K-Var ship hardware with their furniture sets?" are not covered in the stuff I've read. :)

Thanks for the info and you are correct, there is a wealth of information in that AK section over at ar15. I'm converting a Saiga as well, so I'm getting to know all that I can about AK's!
