Hey all. I just bought a bulk pack of Remington Golden Bullet 22s to feed my new 10/22. I happened across a thread where some people were saying really bad stuff about this ammo... it's inaccurate, it misfires, it stovepipes, sometimes you get squibs , etc. I'm looking for some input now. Has anyone used Golden Bullets with any success or did I just throw away my money on crap ammo?
I get a dud now and again with the Remington bulk ammo but I've never had a squib. It won't run in my Barretta either. I prefer the Federal bulk.
It works OK
It isn't match ammo but it goes off in the direction you fire in.
Its been my experience that it will cause problems when you try to rapid fire it from a semi-auto, but that's been the case with just about every 22LR made. One model of firearm will always seem to "prefer" 1 load or brand of ammo over another.
I have never had a squib with Golden Bullets, bit I have had just about every other type of malfunction. As I have had with every other brand of 22LR.
GB's are a good enough bargain that I'm willing to deal with the occasional problem.
Now the problem is finding them for a decent price...:banghead::banghead:

my guns generally like it the only problem i get is a dud every 20 or so 5 out of 10 duds i can fire if i rotate 180 and fire again
the fed bulk pack i get a dud every 50
jams are infrequent accuracy is good enough for me and my style of informal shooting at golfballs and cans 50 -100 yards

Oh ok, thanks! I understand that any bulk pack ammo will have some malfunctions here and there, but the impression that I got was that it was just horrible ammo. I'm not looking for target shooting; all I need is something that's roughly accurate enough to shoot stuff up :D Thanks for the input guys. Anybody else have any thoughts on the Remington GB ammo? :)

Funny you ask this, I love the Remington GBs. Just shot about 400 or so a few days ago thru my 10/22 that I never clean (I did later that night tho). Since I never clean it, I did get malfunctions but it was only because it was so crudded up that the bolt wouldnt close completely and that was probably giving me issues in the the last 150 or so rounds. Besides that, the GBs are damn accurate, kill rabbits very well, I had maybe like 2 or 3 FTfires out of the entire 525 rd box and after I cocked it and loaded the same bullet, it fired just fine. I like the federal bulk but I think the GBs kill rabbits a tad bit better.

Oh and I have 25rd mags for my 10/22 and the GBs perform just fine during rapid fire. Im really surprised to hear that so many people experience so many duds and ftfs and whatnot with 22 lr ammo, I dont seem to come across those issues that often. Hmm

I'm sorta with Jpach, I don't actually LOVE it, but it works well for me - and very well for my wife, so that makes it work for me. To be honest, I haven't really tested it's accuracy over any distance, for that I use the Aquila Super Maximum. However, the GB's function pretty well in all of our .22's. That's pretty much all my wife cares about, that it goes bang and doesn't jam up - she is NOT into clearing jams and goofing with her rifle! Accuracy isn't her big thing, that's what tubular magazines are for :D There are an occasional misfire, but will usually go off on the second try - I never really counted how often. Whenever we go on a shooting camping trip, my wife will run AT LEAST a bulk pack a day through her Marlin 60, plus whatever gets used in other guns. I know my Buckmark has absolutely no problem with this stuff.

Thanks for the input everyone. Now I can't wait til I get to pick up my 10/22 and try it out :D (Five more days...)
One other thing you need to keep in mind, unlike most centerfire ammo, plain old .22 ammo is NOT watertight so it should be stored somewhere cool and as dry as you can get it.

Sounds like it might be a firing pin issue to have that many duds. I've shot two boxes end to end "the 525round packs" and had only 1 issue and it was a failure to feed on my part. A 22/45 eats this stuff likes it its job.

Thanks for the tip -- it's tucked away in my closet, so it should be pretty cool/dry. :)

Remington GB can't be that bad. But one of the posters is right, 22LR feed and fire differently in different firearms. I just got an Advantage Arms for my Glock and it states that Remington Golden Bullets will feed and function in it.

My rifle doesn't like it too much and i feel the powder charge is not as consistent as match 22 ammo. However, for plinking and just having fun if it shoots reliably in your firearm then shoot it. it's cheap.
I'm not a big fan of the golden bullets. I feel like my 22's have a higher failure to fire percentage with them than the federal bulk packs have had.

It's "bulk" ammo.... made to a specific price point. For what is costs, it works OK. I shoot one group on a rest to confirm zero then I use it to plink offhand. I rarely attempt to shoot groups with it since it becomes an exercise in frustration with the flyers.
All the "bulk" ammo in that price range has about the same performance. Haven't found the "diamond in the rough" yet.

Has anyone counted their bulk pack to make sure they got their ration of 525 bullets?
If I'm bored this weekend, I might count all 2100 rounds of 22LR.
If I'm missing any, I'm calling Remington! :chris:

If you listen to them when they fire, there are no two alike, big bang, little bang, feeds fine in my 10/22. It seems to be dirtier than the federal.

Works perfectly in my Walther P22 and Advantage Arms Glock conversion. Neither one will run reliably on Federal. YMMV!

I was just going to mention that exact thing! The Golden Bullets are what I shoot about 90% of the time anyway so it works out well.
They aren't Mini-mags, but they are a heckuva lot cheaper!

I think most 10/22's will eat whatever you feed them. For plinking, I use GB through mine.
FYI, I tried using GB through my Spike's 22 upper but it had FTF problems. I switched to the Federal bulk pack after talking to a friend and the Spike's works perfectly using those.

Fed bulk is the suggested ammo by Spikes FYI.

Well, I just got back from the range. Fired about 200 rounds of each: American Eagle 38gr bulk and the Remington GB 36gr bulk. I bought a brick of AE to compare the Remingtons against. I dare say that the Remingtons seemed a bit more reliable than the AEs, AND more accurate at 50 ft, but they were DIRTY! My fingers/thumb were black after loading a couple mags of the GBs. I also had 2 failure-to-fires, one of which I was able to fire by rotating 180 degrees. With the AEs I didn't have any failure to fires but I had many FTEs, a stovepipe, and many many failure-to-feeds.
Soooo the final word is: The GBs aren't half bad. They're just nasty as hell... my fingers, the magazine feed lips, and the inside of my rifle are all covered in black grime :\ The AEs were very clean in comparison and left little to no grime!

The AEs were much cleaner but I just couldn't get em to work right in my rifle (stock 10/22). I guess what they say about 10/22s having different preferences for ammo is true. Mine doesn't seem to like the AE.
