Sister from Florida nolonger shoots and gives the handgun to mom for protection who lives in NJ. Mom doesnt really need it after 6 months ago and now wants to give it to son who is in Ca. handgun is an off list. How do we do transfer? do all 3 family members must have ffl transfer between each other?

I don't think im wrong here but i BELIEVE that in order for it to be SHIPPED to california it has to be on our "Approved" List. Otherwise she would have to Travel here and do it Face to Face. If im wrong, someone will correct me.

What firearm are we talking here?

See reply in handguns forum (it's more efficient to post question in just 1 place - then get just 1 set of answers! ).

Short answer: interstate cannot use intrafamilial form, MUST use FFL.

If the handgun crossed state lines, it must go through a FFL dealer.

Yes, that works.

Oh, wait - Dad is visiting, and has the gun? Or Dad lives in CA, gun is still out of state?
If Dad visiting, CA doesn't care about transfers outside of CA, so however it got to Dad is fine.

If Dad lives here, gun out of state, still have to do do FFL to get it to HIM. If going Mom -> Dad-who-lives-in-CA it's just as easy to do Mom -> you-who-lives-in-CA.

IF Dad-visiting scenario, both should go to FFL (not must - since could ship it to CA FFL from out of state); plan to pay interstate transfer fee.

Roster exemption for intrafamilial gift, dealer transfer because it's interstate, all the Dealer Things because Feds and CA say so.

Don't forget the lock (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?p=1495010#post1495010) for the ST2011, and locked case for taking it home.
