GunPal, GeoVario announce GP Auctions – Affiliate auction site.
PALO ALTO--(PRWEB, CGNN)--January 18, 2008 -- Popular CDN & webhosting company GeoVario, and GunPal, have teamed up to bring you GP Auctions.
“GP Auctions is a revolutionary approach to the auction model. With our system, existing website owners will directly profit from a push-button integration of a worldwide database of items.” Says Ben Cannon, CEO.
GP Auctions uses a unique patent-pending model in which registered affiliates drive traffic to a central database of auctions. Auctions started or concluded by affiliate website users directly generate revenue for that affiliate based upon the final value of the auction.
“This is like being able to shop at – and support - your favorite mom & pop shop – but with the prices of Wal-Mart and the selection of Home Depot, Lowes and ACE Hardware combined” says Cannon.
GP Auctions will go live in beta form during February 2009 with selected affiliate sites, including Calguns.net and TheHighRoad.us. After the beta period, membership will be open to all sites.
“Our team is in the unique and enviable position of having the capital, experience, and trust of the community to make this revolutionary.” Says Cannon.
Launched in 1994, GeoVario has become the leader in the specialized market of highly available application hosting, and content delivery.
GunPal, headquartered in Palo Alto, CA, was created by Ben Cannon in 2008 to serve the financial and transactional needs of the firearms community.

I'm feeling a bit dense today - I don't understand how this will be different from something like GunBroker. Given who's starting this, I'm guessing that this is pretty amazing, and I just haven't seen the implications yet. Standing by to learn more...

Do I have to worry about losing out on an auction or missing sales because the site is down?

I'm in for an affiliate program as soon as possible.
Also the implications are, no worries about paypal and anti-gun policies. Why not support those who support you? I definitely look forward to it.

Congratulations and good luck on the new venture!
I assume (hope) you will require personal ID verification like on Gunbroker, as opposed to that "other" large auction site which has turned into a cesspool of scams and bogus junk.

that is a great idea!~~~~~~~~I would have no problem with an I.D. check of myself to sell, not that I sell much, more a buyer then a seller:)

I was going to sell my XD 40 here. But I think I will wait and put it up in relation to www.gpauctions.net
instead!.
BTW, WTF with gpauctions.com? One might think that another name besides "gpauctions" would be used in order to avoid confusion with what looks to be a squatter .com domain.

That domain is in process of being transfered over. :) Right now we're .net.
Once again Ben. Kudos on this one.

Sure sounds like it. Looks to be a gun-friendly version of Paypal.

Will all or part of the net proceeds from fees (I am assuming there will be some costs to the end user) go towards Calguns.net or CGF? Frankly, I'd gladly pay a few extra points to use something which would, in the end, benefit Calguns.net or CGF financially and reduce the revenues of 2A-unfriendly companies. Maybe have an "Add an Extra $XX to Benefit CGF" option at checkout :D

Great minds... yes all the above features are slated for production :D In addition, you won't pay much/any more than current online tools (such as they are).
GP Auctions is going to radically improve the experience, support pro RKBA nonprofits, and the web forums you know & love.

I would like to see a private PM sent to Calguns members that will allow them to secure their GunPal/GPAuctions login that matches their CalGuns one as first choice, as I go by the reputation of folks here (iTrader, etc.) that I think would be smartly linked to the new site. I think it would also help extend the community one step further... $0.02.

As some helpful points - I am holding onto a offlist revolver that I want to test the waters with using the site; I would like the options of clearly saying "PPT/FTF only" and "For sale IN California only" as I do not want this older revolver leaving the state. I hope the new site has seller features such as that, and maybe a way of saying which FFLs we're willing to PPT at in our area. $0.02.

please remember to validate all form data on form submissions -- not everyone uses javascript, and the 'bad guys' never use it -- and to use mysql_escape_string() on all POST data

this above code is for the signup list...
and if the form does write to your database and the POST data is not properly escaped, a novice could essentially delete your entire database, and any work that you have done on the new site that may be tied to that database.
