I'm looking to add a 308 to my collection... any suggestions? If you were to have one 308 which would you go for?

Saiga .308! I just got mine and haven't been able to fire it yet. But it looks and feels like a tank.

For 2k it isn't very cheap, but I guess that isn't a ton for a nice gun nowadays.

I don't know if I would want an autoloading 308 like the Saiga... let me know once you shoot it what you think?

So many to choose from. Do you want a bolt action or semi auto? How much you looking to spend?

I have 2 rifles in .308 in my collection M1A Scout Squad and Remington 700 LTR. If I could only have one it would be the M1A.

Bolt? Semi?

If semi, for what purpose? Range blaster? Target accuracy? Reliability when dragged through mud?

If a bolt, what is your purpose? Range fun? Hunting? Long range competition?

What kind of accuracy are you looking for?

Budget?

Please fill out the questionnaire for better assistance :)

I have two;

DSA FAL(I know 7.62x51 but it counts)
Savage 10

I think your best bet is to buy 1 bolt and 1 semi...seems to be a trend.

Any of the Savage Arms "Target Rifle Series"

Savage 12F/TR: http://www.savagearms.com/12FTR.htm

If you want to shoot Palma:
Savage 12 Palma rifle: http://www.savagearms.com/12palma.htm

Frankly, that Palma gun rifle is pretty good for an out-of-the-box factory production Palma ready gun (just add sights).

Semi: M1A

Bolt: Remington 700

+1 :)

Although, if money isn't an issue - I'd go with the LRB Arms M14 Tanker (http://www.lrbarms.com/rifles1.html) - the cheaper equivalent would be an M1A Squad Scout which is an outstanding rifle.

Howa M-1500. Coupled with a nice Hogue over-molded stock and you have a nice sub-$800 .308 bolt. Surprisingly very accurate for the price.

Remington 40X - you can still pick one up for about $800.00.

FAL is the best option. :coolgleamA:

Saiga .308 for a budget, then a properly built G3 or CETME .

M1A makes for a big ol' club.

I prefer a Bolt Action... Just something to add to the collection... it will NEVER be shot... if it's a really nice Semi I would consider it... I'm open to price... I want something that is more of a collectors item...

BOLT: Savage 10-FP

SEMI: M14/M1A

ETA: For a safe queen, get an Accuracy International.

Seems pointless to me... But at least you'll save on ammo costs.

Edit: Wait a minute. Why a .308? If you're wanting to spend lots of money that might be a collectors item, GO BIG. Get a new .416 barrett, or an EDM Windrunner in some big'ole .338 cartridge. .308 just seems silly for what you want. I think we all assumed you wanted to actually shoot the thing.

AirWolf13
01-08-2009, 5:05 PM
It is pointless =) I have always been a fan of the .308... Never owned one but have shot a few. A time and place for everything... I'm going to hold off on the EDM's and .416's for the time being ;-) But your point is understandable...

i have an m1a and have recommended them to a couple people who had nothing but problems with theirs bolt randomly dissassembling itself while shooting trigger group just falling loose

i guess i got lucky with mine so i canot in good consiousness recommend one of those

i can recommend any savage or stevens in 308 they are the ultimate point where quality and affordability meet

its almost like they are disposable

If you want a RARE and collectible .308, try the Steyr Scout in Jeff Cooper Package. Mine always draws a few questions/lookie-lous at the range--people know what it is by reputation but few have actually seen one in person.

Fulton Titan lower and 24 inch DPMS LR-308 A4 upper with quad rail combo. O wait, I already have one and its amazing! Seriously, get an AR in .308, you wont be disappointed. With handloads I get sub-MOA groups very easily and my rifle hasnt had a single malfunction

If you're looking to "invest," you can't go wrong with an Accuracy International or maybe a Sig Blaser. If you want the best value, the AI in .338 will probably appreciate more than if it were in .308

AirWolf13
01-08-2009, 7:22 PM
Thx! I'll look into the .338 as well! If i'm not mistaken, you can use both .308 and .338 with the Blaser?

If you want guns to shoot- the FN SPR or the Rem 700... good glass will cost more than the rifle, but those rifles will be able to hit whatever you're aiming at.

If you want to be tres chic at the range an KAC SR-25

Rem 5R in a AICS 2.0 stock with an uber scope on it, like SB or USO, parker hale bipod, and custom paint(robar/np3). Then it would be almost too purdy to shoot.

Semi - M25 parts in a Gen2 JAE stock.

If money is a factor, Rem 5r with good scope, etc. and Semi - SA scout or DSA Fal para.

This is VERY non-AR, as in smooth lines, outstanding ergonomics, superb engineering. Definitely not meant to be a mass-producible issue weapon.

Check it--gun porn!

Such as the HK SP89=MP5k or the HK UMP 45=USC 45?
