I know this might sound like a really dumb question but I just want to confirm my thoughts. My friend (out of state) asked me to change out the sights on his pistol and fit a barrel (drop-in). I told him he could ship me the slide assembly and could do it for him but I wanted to check here first. This slide/pistol in not on the safe roster. I assume that since this is only a "part" and not a firearm this would not be a problem, right? better safe than sorry :D

Better to ask and be safe, than get caught in a mistake and be sorry.

You can ship anything other than the part with the serial number (the receiver) without involving a FFL.

One exception to this would be Ruger MKIs, MKIIS and MKIIIs. Although, technically the barreled upper is not a slide, many would consider it "the same thing". It's not.

The slide has a serial number also, same as on the frame, every Sig/HK/Glock, etc I have seen are stamped, but I think I get your point. Thank guys!!
