OK, what animal that you took this year was the one that you were the proudest of? What gun, load, location, etc.

I'll start.

A 5 1/8" Steenbok taken in Namibia with my Model 70 375 H&H using a 300 grain Barnes TSX at 2500 fps (To make SCI "Gold" a Steenbok has to have 4" horns and the Namibian record is 5 7/8"). I shot this guy offhand at about 80 yards after missing him with my first shot at 50 yards. The shot is far back on purpose so the bullet wouldn't ruin the cape for a shoulder mount.

So that little guy is a trophy? Just out of curiosity, why did you use the .375? And please, if you have any more pics from Africa, then don't be afraid to share them with us.

Anyway, I don't think that I killed anything bigger than a quail in 2008. Used a 20 gauge Browning BPS w/ #7 1/2 or #8 shot. No pictures were necessary of course.

Steenbok are usually targets of opportunity, I was out hunting warthogs when I stumbled across him.

I'll start another post with African pictures

I wasn't trying to knock you or anything, just curious.

Wood ducks look so cool!

One of the best looking birds in North America in my opinion.

never heard of a steenbok, but just out of curiosity, why did you need so much power for that? looks like you could have taken it with a .223...

I didn't need it. :D I was out hunting Warthogs and just stumbled across this one. I later changed to my 300 WSM after passing up a shot at a Baboon because he was so far out and wound up shooting the warthog with the 300.

That's a beauty of a Tahr. I know my knees can't handle the climbs to chase them so I admire anyone who can hunt the high country. I'll be in on the North Island next month and I'm going to try to sneak in a weekend of feral hunting.

I guarantee there was less meat damage on the Steenbok with the .375 than if he had used a .270. I have a .375 and love it.

I just got back from South Texas this morning from a weekl ong hunt on the King Ranch - I'll load up some pics tomorrow if I can - I shot the biggest deer I'll probably ever shoot - a 16 point Whitetail that measured about 168 7/8's inches B&C by the biologist (wet measurement). We were actually looking for a management buck for my wife to shoot, but when we saw this one the guide said either I shoot it or he would - so I did. I used the gun I brought for the guide's Xmas present - a Marlin Lever gun in .375Win - the deer was hit perfectly at about 90 yards and didn't take another step from where he stood. DRT. It was one of those rare occasions where while we were walking up to see him, we actually had Ground Growth instead of Ground Shrinkage - what the guide had guessed to be a deer scoring in the high 140's to low 150's actually turned out to be a 170 class deer.
A great start to the week - the rest of which consisted of hunting Quail, Dove and Ducks - all limiting out...I love Texas.

Pics should be getting to me tomorrow - I'm waiting for my buddy to send them to me - I promise I'll get them up.

Here are my Pics -

Pics or it didn't happen.

I'm kidding, of course, I'd just really like to see it. It's nice to be able to live vicariously. :)
