where can I find stats on the most popular movie gun. I am guessing AK, MP5, AR, MAC/UZI, glock. but I need some numbers to win a bet....

Do you mean which is seen in movies most often, or which is most popular in the minds of movie goers? I would bet dollars to donuts that ak's are the most often seen in movies (keep in mind that India, China, South America, etc. pump out A LOT of movies every year). As for the most popular with fans is probably Dirty Harry's 44 mag is much loved. I doubt the statistics exist for what you are looking for, but I bet others will agree that ak's win by a wide margin.

Not sure if it would give you what you are asking for but check out http://www.imfdb.org
It's a movie gun wiki. See what guns are in what movie sort of thing.
I say Beretta 92. Die Hard and countless other movies had them featured.

colt single action probably has the most movies since its in every western
after that i would have to say probably the k98 mauser from all the war movies i say k-98 because the random killed enemy always uses one of them but our guys use most everything

AR for rifle and I agree with the Beretta 92 for a pistol. Hollywood became obsessed with them after Lethal Weapon.

Based on the respective IMFDB pages, the 1911 appears to beat the Beretta 92 pretty easily, and you're going to have a hard time beating the M16 for rifles. I'm not the one trying to win a bet, so can't be arsed to dig for the most popular. And I'm sure lots of movies are missing across the board from that excellent site. It's a wiki, so update it with your favorite movies if you have accurate info.

Hand gun I would say glock 19. I see them in both American movies as well as Asian movies, and for rifle ak47 for sure every bad guy has one. But in my heart nothing neat s&w 29.

I'm also going to say beretta 92 and 1911. Glocks and desert eagles do seems to show up a lot.
Anyone ever notice the "wannabe storm troopers" on SpaceBalls with modified Calico m-100's?

i loved it in "i come in peace"
but which one gun has been in the most movies? to me that is the popularity benchmark
In the 1980s and 1990s I would say Beretta 92s.
Now, Glocks and Sigs.

Yup. I see Desert Eagles everywhere in movies.
That is because Desert Eagles are the best pistols ever made!
I think Barret is missing out on this one. Everybody would need Barret 50 BMG pistol for home defense if they made one. Lara Croft would immediately change over.

1940's through 70's - the M1 Carbine got a lot of screen time. In the 40's & 50's for WWII movies, in the 60's & 70's, it was the choice of weapon for the bad guys. (Think Dog Day Afternoon).
Every WWII picture features the M1 Garand. There have been a lot of WWII movies.

Airsoft gun sales are usually a good indicator of what is popular from the movies, right now it is the HK G36 series and the P90s. Just my 2 cents worth.
