Lets say someone possess a fully automatic WASR AK, with a pistol grip and detachable magazine. The only way the weapon will fire is in full auto. There is no semi mode. Now if this were not a full auto it is without a doubt a rifle described in 12276.1. Now since 12276.1 states "semiautomatic, centerfire rifles" would all agree this rifle is no longer an AW under 12276.1? It would be a violation of 12220 and federal law for sure, but I say no violation of 12276.1.

Probably so.

Not of any real particular import, though (i.e, exploitable).

Frying pan, meet fire.

I agree, it is academic. However, someone was debating me on the issue earlier in the day and I wanted to see what others thought.

*IF* you actually got a stamp for a transferable MG, and the permit from the DoJ, it wouldn't matter. Even capable of semi-auto fire, it's still not considered an AW by CA. It's a machinegun. And technically, you CAN own one of those in CA.

Good luck though :)

Correct - as far as it goes, MGs with no semi mode are not susceptible to the CA AW ban.

See frying pan & fire :)
