I have a set of DD's Omega rail with KAC rail covers. I like 'em but the metal clip only lock in on two places (front and rear of the rail on each side of the rail). I like to see if there's anything better out there. Do all the rails have the same spec? What covers are you guys using and how you guys like 'em?

Surefire's, but they are hard to get!

2nd choice would be.... Magpul's Ladder

Rail covers are heavily personal choice.

If you're running a DD (thin) and you like hard plastic, try the TangoDown.

Ladder covers are good, too. SureFire are nice and cheap. All the others are about the same.

The Magpul panels are softer and nice, if you like the feel of, say, an Ergo sure grip (maybe slightly softer than that).

I have not tried the XTM panels from Magpul, but lots like them.

I really like the look and feel of the TangoDown SCAR panels, but I still can't find anyone selling them.

I had some magpul covers on mine for a while but I've got a YHM rail so they just made it feel way too fat in my hand. I switched to some ladders and it feels great now.

I find the Tangodown panels too thick for me, but really like the KAC panels. I'm currently running Magpul ladders. Damn impossible to get those off.

:threadjacked: What's the best way to remove a Magpul ladder panel?

I use Magpul XTM, spaced out a bit. This allows for a very positive gripping surface - and I like the way it looks, so it's a win-win! I use a Magpul ladder on top.

Oh and to DedEye - the best way I have found to remove a Magpul ladder is to use a bullet tip to pry up one corner and peel off...

I know I am going to get murdered for saying this but check out eBay. I bought 4 black panels that Look IDENTICAL To Magpul rail gaurds. (They were not sold as Magpul, but they look the same) The price was 15 shipped for 4 panels. In my opinion why cares where the piece of plastic comes from it's just a guard. Save money.

Here's what i bought.

They could be fine, but it's possible they're not sufficiently heat resistant.

One more piece of "advice" to everyone - I've found lighter colored rail covers (tan) to stay cooler.

I have an omega on a BCM midlength.
full length (11 rib) KAC's work great on the sides. Underneath just pull up on the metal clip and it'll stay in place.

I use the Magpul XT panels. I like the look but as someone already said, your handguard may feel a bit girthy in your hands

I went with a magpul cover on the bottom and ladders on the side. Makes for a comfortable grip and not too fat.

Magpul Ladders on one and Knight's Armament on another.

On my DD and DD Lite rails I am now using the Magpul XTMs. I like that they are a solid, firm fit.

Still running the Ladders that came with my DD rails on my FAL Para.
