Hey guys

I want to put a custom flash hider on my Ruger 10/22 (for aesthetic reasons) but the barrel needs threading in order for it to work.
Is this legal in CA ?

I tried searching but didn't find anything on threading barrels for a Rifle.

After more searching I found my answer.. mod, please delete if necessary :)

Make sure you read that thread you cited in its entirety. The OP is wrong in his assumptions. Threaded barrels are NOT regulated on ANY rifles.

Yes threaded barrels on rifles are legal and unregulated.

Flash hiders are AW features on semi-auto, centerfire rifles, with detachable magazines.

A Flash hider on a 10/22 is fine as the AW ban doesn't include rimfire rifles.

I have one of the steel bolt-on flash hiders from tactical innovations. It looks OK, fit snug, and I would not worry about it flying off from recoil in a rim-fire. $15 http://www.tacticalinc.com/1022-flash-hider-blued-steel-p-512.html
Or they offer a threaded barrel in 1/16 or 1/9 twist for $125 if you don't want to attempt threading yourself. http://www.tacticalinc.com/threaded-twist-ruger-1022-barrel-p-534.html
I opted for the $15 solution, but the 1/2x28 threaded barrel would allow you to use any of the many cool AR15 hiders or fake cans, etc.

I sent the barrel out to a shop.
$19.99 threaded
$19.99 cut to 16.25

Threaded flash hider $40

I've got a sweet project I'm working on. Will post up progress pics later.

Thanks for the responses guys!

indetrucks,
If you don't mind me asking, which shop did you send your barrel to?
Thanks.

It was $19 to thread and another $19 to cut.. I paid shipping which was $12 each way.
So $62 total

What's the cost of having you thread a 10/22 bull barrel in either steel or aluminum?

Nevermind Randall, looked at your website....
