I've got an AR15 in 5.56 and one in 5.45. I use the same mags for both. What would happen if I accidentally shot 5.45 out of the 5.56 gun or vice versa? Obviously I don't plan on ever trying this, and DO plan on preventing it from happening, but thinking about it got me kind of curious.
Bushmaster 5.56 upper, S&W 5.45 upper.
Thanks :)

Be sure and post pictures....when it happens.......

I've seen 5.56 pop out of a 6.8....not very dramatic but not something you'd really want to do....

A 5.45x39 would not fit in a 5.56x45 chamber (5.45 casehead is a larger diameter) and I believe the 5.56x45 would not chamber in a 5.45x39 chamber (5.56 case shoulder is farther forward).

I'm pretty sure it won't happen.

The 5.45x39 WILL NOT chamber in a 5.56, however the opposite may be possible. I doubt there would be a catastrophic failure but the 5.56 case would expand and maybe rupture in some way, so always bring pliers just in case ;)
