I used to reload with a single stage press a long time ago but had stopped reloading because it was too much of a time drain.

Got sick of paying for factory ammo that will never be as accurate as doing it yourself (unless it is super expensive stuff).

Finally got a progressive press: Hornady's Lock n Load AP for $380 shipped with live.com's cashback offer + 1000 free bullets.

Set it up today. The instructions are terse and if you are not familiar with reloading, you might have to fiddle with it for a while to get everything set up properly.

Features that I liked:

-Auto indexing.
-Very easy to change calibers without having to buy tool heads.
-Well made and solid.
-I had read some negative reviews online but Hornady has listened to their customers and fixed issues with the primer feed and shell plates.
-Case activated powder drop. Charges were consistent.

Everything that you want is in the box except shell plates and a scale.

Things that you have fiddle with:

-Gotta make sure that the case retainer springs rides in the shell plate's groove correctly.
-Primer feeding system is sensitive to any debris (like a grain of powder that may have spilled into the groove of the roller/primer hole).
-It would be nice to have some "out of primers" warning. I made an "empty" mark on the stick that fits inside the primer feeder tube and I refill when I am close to this mark.
-Have to make sure that you use a consistent motion when charging the case otherwise weight will vary.
-Have to make sure that your scale is warmed up. This is true generally.
-Have to make sure that you complete your downstroke since it primes on the downstroke or primers will not be fully seated.

I deprime and trim on my single stage press (use the Dillion 1200 case trimmer) and load on the LnL AP. Loaded 350 rounds of 223 and 250 rounds of 45 in one sitting before dinner no problem.

Reloading is no longer a chore. I will be shooting a lot more now.

Overall, very pleased. Would recommend without any reservations. Hornady seems to have fixed any issues with this unit.

I also have a LnL. I am quite happy with it. Still need to turn in the rebate for the free bullets.

As for the primer tube I used a length of coat hanger with a tape flag, to indicate low primers.

Glad you like it.

I have had mine a few years now and haven't had issues with the primer feed or shell plates. What were the issues people were complaining about?

The dowel stick in the primer tube trick is a natural. You catch on quick. :)

I really like the Hornady stuff. I have a job interview in a couple days and if I get the job, the LnL will probably be one of the first things I'll get. It'll go nice with the rest of my reloading setup.

I've heard people complain about trouble ejecting loaded cartridges, some problems with the primer system, but I think Hornady changed the design of the shell plates slightly in the newer version.

Really happy with this setup.

The bad news is I got my 308 dies and bullets stolen from the front door (Fedex left it there while I was out):mad:

Searched for it through live.com. There was a ebay seller selling it. Got a 25% cashback on it. Prices have gone up about $30-40 bucks now but if you can find it, it is still a deal compared to buying it elsewhere.

I have one as well and am pretty happy with it. Keeping the primer slide free of debris is a pain. I saw a post where somewhere modified the bottom of the primer slide with a Dremel to make it more tolerant of spilled powder. Did you get the new ejection system built into the sub-plate or the older wire ejection system?

I deprime and trim on my single stage press (use the Dillion 1200 case trimmer) and load on the LnL AP.

Buy extra bushing. I have a auto case feeder for mine. I use a Lee universal decapping die and the Dillon trimmer with no other dies and then tumble clean. I can then inspect them and run them thru with the dies to reload them.

With the bushings it is easy to change the set up in the same caliber. Neck size your brass, full length resize range pick up. Crimp for a semi auto or even a second seating die for quick seating changes.

you could buy the Dillon primer feed buzzer that sounds when you get to the last 3 primers. I am sure it could be easily adapted for the L a L
