OK all you bait dunkers out there, what is the most successful powerbait you've used? there are like 50 colors out there, I'm waiting for the day I see "corn-in-crap" color come out.

rainbow glitter turbo, glitter chartrueuse(sp)?, lime twist with glitter, rolled onto a 14 treble like a worm. I catch more using mini-jigs tipped with meal worms though.

It depends on the fish! I've used one color and limited in an hour. Then, the next week, another color works better in the same spot.

I always use something with green in it. Since I was 4 years old. Always works.

rainbow glitter is good but the big fish always bite the chunky cheese!

The only color that i've gotten to work well is green, regardless of whether it be light/dark or with sparkles. If you're crafty, you can buy regular chartruse and use some sparkly glue to make sparkly power bait.

If youre going for catfish I used little pieces of steak or cotton balls soaked in iodine.

You need at least 5 colors if fishing clear water. It seems to me they wont bight the same color twice.some times.and it also seems the longer it stays in my tackle box the better it works.I call it aged.

Ive had good luck with chartrueuse. I also use Orange. Also try a Gold Kastmaster.

Hey that is a great nymph up here for Brown Trout. They eat them up from size 18-22.

The best to buy would be the Berkeley Gulp. Same people that make powerbait, but the Gulp is a stronger formula.

Best colors are... Rainbow Candy, Chunky Cheese, American Pie, Orange Pulp, Chartreuse, and Marshmellow.

Most important is to use fluorocarbon leaders! About 12-16in of fluro leader in 2 or 4lb will increase bites.

The fluro I would particularly recommend would be the Berkly Vanish (not the same as Berkley transition).

Another killer combo to try would be a "Power Mouse". Buy some Berkley Gulp salmon eggs in white and some Berkley power worms in Pumpkinseed or Pink Shad. Now get some Owner Mosquito hooks in size 6. Pin on a Powerworm and mash a Gulp egg around it.

Good luck

Done real well with the Orange in lakes that are stocked.
White has always give me best results in higher elevation Sierra Lakes and streams.
Green also works in both of the above conditions.

Rainbow/chart umm the green one.... Those work about 80% of the time. I also like the Corn yellow(don't think they make it anymore) and the capt america (the white seems to get bites when it's slow from time to time). The only other one I've really had luck on was a blue/orange twist(no clue on the name).

The best bait for farmed raised trouts are the little pellets DFG uses to feed them. I use to go to Bishop yearly and would buy them at the fisheries for 10 cents a handful. Crush them into fine powder and work it with your favorite powerbait.
