I sent a letter to Tom McClintock and asked him if he might try for Governor. He seems to be about the only straight forward guy in the GOP who could potentially get it done, so I think that if we all here at CGs started writing to him, he might at least respond with an answer.

Tom McClintock has gotten a fairly safe Congressional seat (a tight race, but looks like he made it) and not bound by term limits. He can hang out there for as long as he wants.

For governor, there's zero chance he'd win in the next 2 years against a better-funded Dem in current environment, and with the CA Republican party asunder (self-inflicted, wholly aside from national issues). He'd be silly to try.

We need to stop thinking about gun rights being wholly in the hands of R's within CA. Some fraction of the CA R party wants to treat gunnies like R's instead of looking out for their gun interests. There's actually some great progun D's "in the pipeline" at county level that may hop up to state level in the next few election cycles.

CA R's need to earn our vote, not count on it blindly. They've been pretty timid in the past few years too, not really carrying a lot of good winnable bills for us. Remember, if you have an AR/AK pistol that you got via the 12133PC single-shot pistol exemption, a Democrat helped bring that exemption bill up for us.

Any Democrat who is intelligent enough to say that guns are not the problem, it's the person behind the trigger that is the problem, has my vote. Of course, actions speak louder than words.

Remember, Arnold ran as a "Republican" and he allowed the ban of the .50 BMG :(
