View Full Version : Transferring a shotgun to my brother
My brother wants to buy a shotgun from me. It is my understanding that since we are immediate family, and it is a long gun, I can simply give it to him. The DOJ family transfer form says specifically that it is not for long guns, and that reporting long gun transfers among family is voluntary. Is this the case?

Family transfers in California can only go between grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren.
Uncles, siblings and such do not count.
You gifting a shotgun to your parent would be legal, and your parent gifting a shotgun to your brother would be legal. But you gifting a shotgun to your parent with the intent that they turn around and gift it to your brother would not be legal.
