Parts are easier to get then the Retro stuff. Nodak makes the correct upper and lower receivers so that is easy.

I love my M16A1 Retro build. In the process of swapping out my Stag lower for a correct nodak lower. Light, simple and fun to shoot.

Not really, an A2 receiver that's painted grey does not a retro make.
A1 cuts anyone?

retro enough?

Kinda. Wrong grip, and an A2 lower. Could say the barrel is to long too. But I guess it could go for a car build. Oh the small parts are black not grey.

Hey, you asked.:D

If you aren't old enough to remember the old M16's, I could see them not being everyones cup of tea. I have 1 of each. New and old. And more old builds in the works.

Oh, and why did you describe my rifle to the T? Been looking in my safe?:p

LOL AK's for the win ;)

I've sitting here thinking about building an AR, and I always come back to the retro builds. I've been seriously thinking about building a 308. I know it's not a true retro build, but I like the look of the triangle handguard and all. Does anyone know if the Triangle A1 handguard would fit on a 308 barrel? I'm assuming it's a thicker bigger barrel. Would I be able to open up the handguard to fit around the barrel?

I'm not sure the point of this work but some people take it up a notch when it comes to their forgeries. This is waaay beyond trying to make a Fiero look like a Ferrari.

What's with the 30 rounder? It should be a straight 20.

I'm just kidding. Nice rifle.

Just for reference a 603/M16A1 could be either flash hider. Pronged or caged.

Photoshop CS3 Tutorials

How to Distort an image

Note: If a type layer or a shape layer is selected, you must rasterize the layer before proceeding, making the type or shape editable by the Liquify filter. To distort type without rasterizing the type layer, use the Warp options for the Type tool.
Select the layer you want to distort. To change only part of the current layer, select that area.
Choose Filter > Liquify.
Freeze areas of the image that you donít want to alter.
Choose any of the liquify tools to distort the preview image. Drag in the preview image to distort the image.
After distorting the preview image, you can use the Reconstruct tool or other controls to fully or partially reverse the changes or to change the image in new ways.
Do one of the following:
Click OK to close the Liquify dialog box and apply the changes to the active layer.

Click Cancel to close the Liquify dialog box without applying changes to the layer.

Click Restore All to revert all distortions to the preview image, leaving all options in their current settings.

Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) and click Reset to revert all distortions to the preview image and reset all options to their defaults.

You can use the Edit > Fade command to create additional effects.

I don't see much of an appeal in the A1 either. I like the earlier versions, to me replacing the buttstock, handguards, and forward assist and calling it a retro is silly. I know, I know, the A1 also had some tiny other changes but most people don't bother.

It is all about the slickside uppers with either no mag fence or a partial mag fence :drool5:

Honestly, all this constant reposting of this picture has made me incredibly curious to find out what's being hidden in Photoshop.

As for retro builds: maybe 10-15 ARs down the line I'll add a couple retros to round out the collection, but no current interest.

My machinist buddy is a excellent aluminum welder :) he welded a stop by welding it in the front and backside of the mag he did it for me a while back.. not sure how he does it(aluminum welding) or what he uses, I'll have to ask him Monday. I cut a 20rnd mag spring to match the length of my Bushmaster 10rndrs handed the spring to him and the follower... . The only problem is that I can't take the mag apart to clean it as I cut a 20rnd mag spring to match the length of my Bushmaster 10rndrs handed the spring to him and the follower.. he then put the follower and spring in the mag and welded the stop in place with the follower and spring already installed.....
