I hope to have my AR-10 finished by the end of the year. A friend gave me 100 rounds of .308 ammo that he had laying around..said that they were machine gun .308 ammo.

Is there a difference in the amount of powder charge for machine gun as opposed to regular rifle rounds? ... or will I just have a more exciting time shooting it!?:D

nothing extraordinary comes out of the casing like confetti or streamers.

From what I understand, machine gun ammo is not terribly accurate. It shouldn't be any hotter than your typical 7.62x51. I could be wrong though. I'm sure others will chime in.

You are not doing your friend any favors by posting this here.
I know there's quite a few .mil personnel here, I'm one.
It is a serious offense. One cartridge or a thousand.

I'd think about editing your post if I were you.

And no, nothing extraordinary comes out of the casing like confetti or streamers.

maybe I should clarify this... he said that it was some ammo that he had picked up at a gun show sometime in the '80s...german mfg.

he has never been in the U.S. military.

It's fine... a waste of barrel life, but fine.

a gun is a machine and tool, now if it was specifically made for a type of gun that would be the matter.

I'm not aware of any 'machine gun' 7.62mm ammo. Some comes on links, some in boxes, and some on clips. It's all the same stuff.
