Just curious if anybody here has experience with refinishing the SKS stock? How did you do it, and how did it turn out?

Yes, several years ago. Check out surplusrifle.com for some tips.

I'll try and get some pics of my M59 up later today. I used Boiled Linseed Oil.

Its not that hard a process...

In short...

I basically sanded down the stock, applied a stain (wish I would have gone darker), and then applied some Tung Oil and buffed - DONE :D

Looks great. Ill snap some pictures when I get home and post

did you buff between coats? i am on my first coat on my nagant, using minwax color based. the first is almost dry, i am wondering if i should lightly sand the whiskers out before the next coat, or what to do now that im at this step... kinda lost

Here is a Pic of my Yugo M59. Refinished the stock about 3 years ago...It has darkened quite a bit over time. I used Boiled Linseed Oil only.

I think that is shellac? Might be wrong...
