Question: Can a legally owned registered assault pistol be fitted with a longer barrel? I would think yes but want the opinions of the forum. I think a Calico 900 barrel will fit a 950. I assume the collapsible stock would be a no-no due to the receiver being designated a pistol. Could a forward grip be installed?:43:

Yes you can change the barrel length. You can't add the stock unless you have a 16" or longer barrel, but then according to ATF it has to stay a rifle. It is my understanding that the pistol to rifle to pistol only applies to the TC. I don't have a link or I would post it. The foregrip is not allowed unless it's an AOW under Federal rules.

A federally registered AOW IS possible in CA if you are willing to jump through the hoops.

Right, but if he already owns a Registered AW, then he has to get CLEO sign-off on the Form 1. May not be able to do an NFA trust, so it would be a tighter hoop to jump through.

Might be able to go CLEO route. Our sherif is very reasonable. She does not require your CCW guns to be on the safe guns list.

Does the forward vertical grip automatically make it a Federal AOW? Or are you talking about CA law? I am not trying to avoid being a CA AW, It's already a reg. assault weapon in CA. Isn't that just one of the "evil" features?

The VFG makes it a Federal AOW. So, you have to have federal permission to possess the AOW.
And as you mentioned, it is an evil feature in the CA AW regs. But since it is already a registered CA AW, adding extra evil features does not seem to be a problem.

That's kinda what I thought. Don't know if it's worth the hassle or not. Seeing as how a pair of vice grips gets you there if you ever really need it. AOW just makes it so you can do it pretty.
Ain't these regs a hoot?:rofl2:
