Can a LEO carry his off duty weapon at Disneyland? Or is there a law that will not allow them?

No law beyond whatever private rules they have in place. This has been discussed before and from what I remember it's forbidden. Apparently security has a lockbox for firearms storage at the entrance.

From the Disneyland website:

"What items are not permitted within Disneyland® Park, Disney's California Adventure® Park or the Downtown Disney® District?"

"Items not permitted include, but are not limited to:
(14th item down) Weapons of any kind (including guns; knives; billy clubs; brass knuckles; and nunchucks, stars and other martial arts equipment)"

So no, an off-duty LEO can't take his gun into Disneyland. And they have search point at the entrances to the parks now where they check backpacks and purses and wand people if they look suspicious.

And they honestly are a joke. (Note! I'm not suggesting nor condoning bringing a weapon into DL) but... last time we went, took a camelback. They looked in the main compartment, but not the bladder area. How easy it would be to slip my 1911 in there!!

It's just security theatre.

Been to Disneyland 3x in the past 10 years in both active and retired status as a CA LEO, and the one time I was asked about it showed my creds and no problem.

Been to Disney World once in the past 5 years as a retiree and though they do have a policy or perhaps a county ordinance, it wasn't a problem.

YMMV

They don't search very well.

They definitely don't search very well, I just had a discussion with a federal LEO I know who went to Disneyland last month. He got in just fine, but went back to the car to get sweaters in the afternoon and when he came back in, they found out he was carrying (metal detector the trip back in). They asked him to secure his firearm at the gate or in his car, even though he had his badge.

Like everything, it sometimes depends on who you talk to at the gate.... or how much they check. He also mentioned they don't search purses very well, something about the security folks not being allowed to touch the interior, but looking in is OK as the owner holds it open.

ha, you were under constant surveillance by the mouseketeer secret police from the time you walked in the gate. their lubyanka-like headquarters are hidden under the matterhorn. be thankful you didn't end up in in one of their dungeon cells, especially the ones with sand on the foors.

The searches at Dland are simply a joke. I have been through the "Security Area" many times over the past three years. I have never seen any metal detectors. You could pretty much bring in anything you want. I guess they are trying to give people a sense of security, in actuality they aren't. Reminds me of the airport guards. I walked through the airport security with an open bottle of water in my back pocket I forgot about, did they catch it hell no.

Disneyland had legendary security until the 80's. I remember being a kid there, if you LOOKED like you were considering doing something stupid somebody would come out of a shadow and tell you to knock it off. It was one of the greatest things about Disneyland.

Funny... I just went to DL wed night and when I went through the "checkpoint"... I said to my self "Self... I wonder in you could carry in the most wonderful place on earth?"

If you dont have a bag you can just run through thier checkpoint. You could probally "carry" a Rem870 if you could keep a straight face

I used to bring mine in when I was active and was never checked. I haven't gone there since I retired, so I don't know what would happen now even tho I have my ccw permit and I.D.

I do know if I wanted to go to Irvine Meadows for a concert, I'd have to leave it at home. I went there years ago for a concert when I was still in le and was told to leave it in the car. They had no lockup for it and wouldn't permit it inside. I'm guessing it was because they served beer inside (tho I don't drink). I put it beneath my driver's seat and worried about it all night during the concert. I will never do that again; I'll either buy a lock box to secure it within the car or leave it at home if I don't have one.

Disneyland is a no...you can always sneak it in but I personally feel it's inappropriate. If you were caught by disney security they will just ask you to put it in your car or lock it in a locker. Knotts berry farm will allow LEOs only to carry inside of the park but you have to notify security ahead of time.

Speaking of other parks, anyone feel safe at Magic Mountain?

It's alot better than it once was as far as the large number of gang members who used to be there. The rides are getting very run down however...and I don't think it would take much to get a gun or knife passed the security at the gate.

I would disagree. I literally live just down the street from Magic Mountain, and I have a season pass. The security there can actually be pretty anal. Last time I went through they even made me take off my belt and shoes, and then wanded me after I went through the metal detector.

If I had a CCW, I would probably carry at Disneyland. Last time I was there (less than a week ago), I didn't get checked at all because I wasn't carrying a bag. They just waved me through. The people I was with also mentioned that the bag checks were very cursory. One of them even remarked "I could probably smuggle an UZI through there and nobody would notice".

Since none of Disneyland's rides are very intense, it would be very easy to securely wear a handgun and still have a great time. At a place like Magic Mountain, however, I'd be worried about the security of my firearm while riding any of the rides.

I'd guess it was more so an accidental exposure of your carry piece did not cause a panic among the sheep customers. I work at a NorCal venue and our policy is that LEO are OK with ID, and we get your ticket/seat location, so if we get a MWG call, we can check our list and soothe the poor thing.

Non-LEO CCW, however, is "no". I don't know that that's ever been an issue.

In several years, I haven't heard of anyone bringing any in; I've had an FBI agent and a Sheriff's Deputy self-ID but tell me they had left their weapons in their cars.

I cannot speak to conditions at Magic Mtn. now, but in the 90s and early 2000s, the gang detail was in high force there due to the ongoing problems. "Regular" people were probably safer then due to the large amount of deputies there than most other times. I had to stop going there due to my back surgeries since I couldn't go on anything faster than the merry go round.:(, but when I could, I always brought my gun and they never checked.

Yet there are numerous places where you can hand items from outside the park to somebody inside the park.

Sheeple owns DL/other theme parks so sheeple thinks that a no ccw/leo weapons allowed will make it a safer place for other sheeples. Thing is that it's just like the gun control crap that the anti's been pushing for---It don't work for criminals...all it does is handicapp all the other sheeples so the criminals can have at it.

They should see it as a good thing with off duty leo's ccw/ and licensed ccw's on citizens as they may be the first responders to an emergency requiring the use of force. By the time their security gets to the call it'll be over already as the criminals would of just split and blend into the crowd.
