Inherited guns, help!

My very good friend's father died and left him a lot of guns. The guns are out of state.

I read the reg's and it appears that he can bring the rifles back on the airplane but the handguns need to be shipped overnight to a CAL FFL. Is that correct? I think the quantity is substantial so he may need to ship everything.

Once the handguns are here he can register them by completing and faxing the California Intrafamilial transfer form. Yes? or does he have to go thru the 10 wait and do the whole dros thing?

I don't know if he had any AR's or other assault rifles. I suspect he did. How do we treat those?

What about handgun and assault rifle magazines that hold more than 10 rounds?

Any advice that you have that I can pass on to him would be apreciated.

My friends father was a NRA life member and believed strongly in our freedom and gun rights.

If the dad died and left them to the son, he should be able to just bring back any CA-legal firearms back with him, including the handguns. He would need to fill out the intrafamilial/operation of law form.

If they weren't left specifically to him, but the mom was just giving them to him since they were his dad's, that exemption may not apply, and they might need to be transfered through a CA FFL, all of them, rifles and pistols.

There is an exemption to the federal interstate transfer of firearms needing to go through a dealer for wills/bequeths.

Any AR/assualt-type firearms would need to be off list and in an non-AW config.

No large capacity mags can be imported. Magazine parts are not mags.
