So me and a guy were discussing the Heller case a few day ago, and he said that a new AW ban will absolutely not happen!
Even if Obama gets his way. He said that the Heller case protected "popular firearms" and said that AR's and AK's are very popular.
I was wondering what you guys might think.
It would be nice if "we the people" can hold on to some sort of high powered rifles to ensure and protect our liberty!

That's not how things work. Politically, it was already an unfavorable climate for a new AWB, and Heller made it even more so. This means the chances of an AWB making it to a vote, passing, and being signed are not that good.
However, it could happen.
After Heller however (and with the current Court makeup), the chances of a AWB similar to the last surviving legal challenges up to and including the Supreme Court are very low.

Im trying to learn as much as I can about the Heller case, but I seem to find threads that discuss certain areas of the case.
Is there a thread that can out line the case step by step?
I want to learn as much of this as I can. and gather all that I can comprehend.

heller is new. it will undoubtedly have far reaching consequences but until incorporation begins at the states levels no one can accurately predict what exactly those will be.

So if the 1939 Miller decision protects Military and common use weapons?
How were the feds, and local state government allowed to create the AW ban?

Search incorporation, or 14th amendment. There are many threads here on it. In short, the 'Bill of Rights' is a prohibition against federal power, NOT state power.

Ignoring the constitution is not that big of a deal for politicians. So I imagine ignoring supreme court rulings can't possibly be off the table. Your friend has the right idea on paper, but I'm afraid there are no absolutes.
I agree with his sentiment though. I don't really see another AWB in the near future, even under an Obama presidency. I think the climate post-Heller is going to be tightening regulations and technicalities rather than sweeping bans.
