Regardless of where we as individuals stand on Prop 8, one benefit is the concept of equal under the law is being pounded into the public.
People on the left believe in that core value of equal under the law. I believe that in the urban areas, the equality under the law issue will be very useful for us in our battles to get "equal issue" on CCW permits.

sorry, I wouldn't hold your breath. Liberals easily like to use such appealing language to advance their own issues but rarely does the same language seem to be able to apply to issues they are against. Case in point: Democrats quickly decry 1st Amendment violations (or 4th/5th Amendment violations) on the grounds that civil rights are being violated. Bring up 2nd Amendment issues and for some reason such rights protected are not civil rights that people should freely enjoy.

Sure, they're two-faced about it but as more and more laws and court cases end up on the books they will have no choice but to relent.

Someone stole my Yes on Prop 8 sign. I guess they didnt feel I should have the equal right to exercise my First Amendment rights. Real nice.

If a majority of gun-owners can't get behind equal protection for gays, why do you think liberals would do so for us?

Liberals are always promoting tolerance, yet when it comes to issues they don't like...they are often the most intolerant. This is especially true when it comes to gun rights and religious rights.
