a freind of mine has a 51-50 on my record. can he still buy a firearm?

FIREARMS PROHIBITING CATEGORIES
State and federal law make it unlawful for certain persons to own and/or possess firearms, including:

Any person who is taken into custody as a danger to self or others under WIC Section 5150, assessed under
WIC Section 5151, and admitted to a mental health facility under WIC Sections 5151, 5152, or certified
under WIC Sections 5250, 5260, and 5270.15

If it's on his record then no. That is my understanding and when you are filling out the DROS paperwork they ask if you have ever had mental issues such as the above.

You Your friend should get a copy of the 4473 and see if you they can answer the questions truthfully. Then get the form from the CA DOJ that lets you them submit and see if you your friend is eligible to own a firearm.
