I'm new to motorcycling and haven't transported a handgun by bike yet, but I'm sure the day will come soon when I decide to head to the range on only two wheels.
I'm curious what opinions are on this: If my bike has a storage compartment under the rear seat that can only be accessed with a key, then is that good enough to constitute a locked, enclosed container?
I ask the question kind of academically - anything I transport in this compartment would be in a rug and I'd probably padlock the rug anyways. But I'm just curious if anyone has a definitive answer. :)

It would be considered a locked "trunk".
I would ask a somewhat obvious follow on question. But I don't really want to know the answer. ;)

i just use the case that my gun came with. Put a lock through the handle and stick it in my backpack. For long arms, I have a soft case with backpack straps.

Definitive is difficult. But you just need to avoid breaking any laws. They are, 12025, carrying concealed, 12031, carrying loaded, and 626.9, possession in a "school zone". Avoiding 12031 is relatively easy. The easiest way to avoid the other two is by using the 12026.2 exemption, which states the handgun must be in a locked case other than a vehicle's utility or glove box.

I would be worried that would be considered a “utility compartment”.

I wouldn't be too worried about that. It's definitely for storage, not what I'd call a "utility" compartment.
That said, neither of my handguns will fit under my bike's seat (barely enough room for the tool roll and insurance/registration stuff), so I usually lock one in a case and drop it in my backpack. Sometimes I put the locked case in my tank bag, but not very often...
I put the handgun in a case and lock the case. Then I put the case in my back pack.
