A friend of mine would want to buy a handgun, and he is a newbie and he know nothing about gun. He just want to buy one.

Imbert & Smithers in San Carlos would be a good place to start in that area. They carry both new and used, but I recommend new gun for newbies.

Also, Tabor's is a few miles north in San Bruno (near SFO). Nice store and the owner is a pretty active shooter (as well as a firearms technical consultant for Myth Busters).

I second Tabor's and there's City Arms in Pacifica. www.city-arms.com

I would suggest city arms they are helpful and nice, the others at least to me, are condescending and don't seem to like newbies, but all three have a good selection. There is also bay area gun vault in mountain view which has a great selection and Krausewerk Collectibles in san mateo on 21st which doesn't have a great selection but its decent. what is he looking for anything specific? caliber? manufacture? maybe one of us could help him out

Avoid Imbert & Smith their prices are outrageous. Try anybody else in the phone book.

No it wouldn't... Imbert & Smithers is the worst place to start....
Worst customer service I have ever experienced in a gun store... try the Gun Vault in Mountain View instead... BEST customer service i have ever had in a gun store!

I've been to Imbert & Smithers twice. The first time I was ignored. I tried one more time, and I was just avoided in favor of the window shopper. Both times there were 2 to 3 people working. I always get help right away--within reason--at both City Arms and Tabor's. One thing to watch out for is that Tabor's adds a $15 "dealer fee" onto your total when buying a gun. Jackson Arms has a very helpful staff, and their prices are usually pretty decent.

Stay away from this place. I live 5 mins away from I&S and prefer to drive to City Arms.

What about the new Bay Area Gun Vault in Mountain View?
Best customer service and friendly owners/staff of any gun store I've ever been to.
At The Gun Vault today I bought a new Kimber Pro CDP II, and last week I bought a stripped Doublestar OLL (very OLL friendly!).
If they were asses they wouldn't be getting my business.
