View Full Version : Valuation of Customized S&W 559

I've got several S&W 2nd and 3rd gen handguns that are unmodified so determining the value isn't that difficult. I've also got a customized model 559 that I'm not sure about.

I bought it used from an estate sale (at a good price) and don't know who did the original work. Included in the storage box (not factory box) was a pricelist and business card from Terry Tussey when he worked at Western Guns and Ammo so it's possible it's some of his early work but that's unconfirmed (I bought the gun not the story).

Anyway, it's a 559 with a 659 (stainless) slide, ambi safety and I added Altamont walnut grips, had the second stage trigger lightened a bit and had the feed ramp polished. The first stage trigger already had a nice pull and reset so it was left alone.

For you guys with custom guns how do you determine the insurance value? I'm not sure where to find an appraiser that knows custom 2nd gen S&W handguns.
