My wife is offering me an opportunity for a new 45! I am thinking about the XD essential 5"(sm budget). I cast and powder coat 200 gr SWC for my 1911.

Can the XD handle that design of bullet? If not, can it handle a 200 gr TC?

Thanks, Donn

I don't think it can handle such bullet.

My xd didn't like them. If your casting your own get a round nosed mold and cast away

I think it can. The XD's have " lands and grooves " rifling like a 1911. Where you can't fire those bullets " safely " is when you have the polygonal rifling like what Glocks have.

Actually you can also with the Glocks, but deposits will build up real quickly, pressure will rapidly spike up so that it becomes unsafe.

Meaning feed them - I think it can. I'm not an XD or plastic pistol fan, but fiddled with a friend's recent XD buy. It fed 225 grain flush seated full wadcutters that I use in my Smith 25. IIRC we put 3 or 4 in a mag, dropped the slide and fired. I like auto pistols fine, don't think many are around that can do that.

My 30S won't cycle 200gr SWC's. Not sure how the XD will do.

I've reloaded and shot SWC out of my XD40 a lot. Never had a feeding problem. Dont see why the 45 would handle them any different - which is why I just loaded a bunch of stuff including some SWC for my XD45. I'm going to chrono a variety of 45s in my next range trip. My wife doesn't understand how I can spend the better part of a day at the range.

The XD45 does NOT like SWC. Get over to the XDTalk forum and start searching.
