Forget Buck fever, I've got Duck fever!

I've been stringing decoys, and calling on my way to work, anyone else anticipating the opener?

Heck yea! Even my dog is acting psycho. I pass over the Yolo Causeway and it was full of ducks. I'd get pumped every time, like a litttle kid. The water has since gone down so the birds moved south away from the freeway.
Recently picked up a Mossberg 935 so gonna try 3.5's this year in the Blackcloud. Bring on the weather!!

I've heard the blackcloud caries to two different distances because of different pellet weight.

I picked up my 2 boxes of heavy shot for the year, I've been shooting the Winchester Xpert from Walmart. $7-9 a box.

I can't wait!! Hopefully we will get some wheather.

+1 on getting some weather this season, last year we had only 1 good storm.

Opening day looks like a bright moon :(

Since no deer hunting trip to CO this year for me, ducks will pay the price!!!
Brother in law leases a piece of rice field up past Williams and we're counting the days.... while watching weather reports, of course.
He and his brother pounded the hell out of 'em last year when they had that big storm come up in late in the season.

I'm without a best friend and hunting partner this year. Going on 18 months. Makes the upland hunting tough.

Did you lose a dog? If so, sorry for your loss.

I'm all ready for the season.. I know it started last week. I think me and a newbie friend are going to head up to see if we can shoot the afternoon at Gray Lodge. If we can't get on there, maybe one of the others in the area. It's his first time hunting anything, so I figured something easy, not at 0 dark thirty would be best for his first time out. If we get something good, if not, there is always next time. I still have some meat in the freezer from last season :)

We'll be using handloads.. 1 1/8 of 3's at 1500 fps. I might bring a few #2's of Kent Fast Steel also. I'll have some BB's in case it looks like there might be geese, but usually there are none of those around there.

Any of you know where I can get a good deal on a case of hevi-Steel (not Hevi-SHot, but the cheaper stuff)? That stuff was deadly last year, but it's friggin expensive. Also, I've noticed fewer places are carrying it... is there something better 7 cheaper?

Me my two huntin' partners has ressies at Medota on opener. Really overgrown since the last time (2 seasons ago) we were there. Overall not bad and better than many.

I took a newb hunter to Gray Lodge last Saturday.. it was.. well like summer.. We didn't even SEE a duck.. Now this week we have the weather but he can't make it so I'm going as a guest on Dad's Club and it looks like the weather is going to cooperate. I heard that the clubs in the area (glenn/colusa border) had limits today. Might be a chance of geese with that 16-22 mph wind. Woo hoo! We may actually get some weather this year!

Well, it poured rain on me and my friend. We shot, and shot, and missed, and hit, and missed some more.. and it rained, and blew, and rained some more, and then it really started coming down (like that scene in Caddyshack where Bill Murray says, "I don't think the heavy stuff will be coming down for a while") and then it really opened up and then the ducks were coming from all kinds of different directions, in large flocks and singles and pairs... OMG whatta day!!!

We were the last ones out from the morning and we finished up about 12:30 pm with 2 limits of what was mostly Gadwall and Widgeon with a teal and a couple Pintail mixed in. I had a momentous day of missing everything that was coming in (while trying and failing to stay dry). We had a heck of a day and man were there birds... I would be calling in a flock and my partner would spot another closer flock coming in from behind us and he'd open up on those... lol..

Who'd think that an early season storm could be so productive.

My one attempt at a lone goose ended in utter failure when the load of T shot I dropped into the gun promptly went "pfffft-pop".. wtf  Lucky for me the wad cleared the muzzle and I loaded back up for whatever was coming next. That goose had a lottery day today! :D

Doubtful you will find any of that stuff for a cheap price. With ammo prices going through the roof and all in the past, if anyone still has it, they likely ordered it when the price was sky high. I'll stick to Kent Fast Steel or my own handloads.
