I have an unbuilt Polish Underfolder kit with NDS-1P receiver that I bought last year and didn't have the time/room to have it built. I now want to build it, but I want to have it as original underfolder when I go shoot out of state. For California, I have a mag lock for the magazine, but the length for an OLL is 30" in California. I need to know how long of a muzzle device I have to put on to make it Cali compliant. I have an AK Tantal Muzzle break, but what else do I need to put on the barrel to make it to the 30".

Thanks

I don't have the dimensions of a Polish underfolder, but the maths should be easy enough. The length of your NDS receiver is 10.25", so if you line that up with remnants of the receiver on the barrel trunnion of you AK kit, it will give you the OAL length of the rifle folded. The rear trunnion is flushed to the back of the receiver, so really doesn't factor into the OAL.

My guess is it's going to be about 25" to 25.5" from the tip of the barrel to the end of the receiver. This will give you a good indicator on the length of muzzle extension you will need. The muzzle brake and the threaded barrel with have a small overlap (approx 0.5") so compensate for that, too.

Personally I would go for the top muzzle extension / flash hider in the 5.25", if the dimensions from your kit work out the same as my estimates : http://ak47brakes.ricksmuzzlebrakesandgunstuff.com/index.htm

The length from the tip of a 16in barrel on an AK (without MB/flash hider) to the rear of the receiver is 25 inches.

You could also make 2 bolts- one with a removed (stubbed) gas piston for manual-repeating operation (non-semi auto).

With one warning- I've seen it done and it REALLY makes the action dirty. All the gas that pushes the piston goes- you guessed it- right back into the action :D I think to do it right you need to buy a spare upper handguard tube and cut a huge hole in it to vent gas up. Swap them as sets. Or maybe tap the top of the gas port for a (removable) threaded set screw..

or you could throw a huge screw on the back ;)

you'll need something like a fake can or an extended brake. look at amd brakes (same thread). i don't think the tantal brake is 5".

Here is an extender, it just looks like part of the barrel and you can put whatever muzzle device you want on the end: http://dpharms.com/2-inch-barrel-extention-p-36.html?osCsid=c2a7c235093b200882ab489da0636f4b

Does anyone know where I can get an barrel extender for a .223 YUGO AK?

Somebody recently sold an underfolder with the bayonet permanently attached. Not the most elegant solution IMO, but it is an option.
