I already have a Glock 19 and tons of mags for it. I want to make my own with a polymer80 lower, but didn't want to wait for the G19 version to come out. So I decided to try my hand at a grip chop.

I ordered a Spectre from the DIYGlock.com group buy. Really nice guys to deal with, and I got mine pretty quick.

First, I had to buy a G17 mag, then did a bunch of measurements with both G17 and G19 mags, and compared the lowers. I installed the mag catch and spring to do the testing. Made a mark, then measured a few more times.

Here is a pic prior to the chop:

Finally, I took out my Dremel and did the deed. I think it came out pretty well, looks decent enough for me. Maybe not as good as a pro would do it, but hey, I'm an amateur.

Here's a pic of the chopped lower, with a G19 mag inserted:

Finally, here is a pic with a G17 mag inserted for reference:

Everything seems to function OK. I need to finish the build to do a full test. I have most of the parts, but am looking for a good priced G17 slide, which everyone seems to have out of stock, or want outrageous prices.

So, if you are sitting on a ton of G19 mags, and you don't want to wait for Polymer80 to come out with their G19 compatible lower, this may be an option for you.

I have been looking for someone else to to this! Thanks for sharing! I'm waiting for my Lone Wolf parts to come in, myself (and growing more impatient by the minute). I'm going to attempt to leave a tail so the bottom is flat with no protruding mag plate. But, alas. I can't even get stared until my parts (and magazine catch) show up. Did you find a 17 slide? These things have shot Glock parts through the roof but I managed to get a complete.40 slide for under $300 on gunbroker. Not too late to switch calibers...

Complete slide, cheapest I could find was $450.

Riflegear sells a brand new G17 for $499.

The choice is obvious to me.

this is awesome! i was just thinking about this yesterday haha.
do either of you know where to get the lower internal kit? or do you have to buy each individual part that goes in the frame by its self?
i was thinking this would be a fun project to do buy just ordering a few parts a month

Rainier Arms has the lower parts kit I just checked they are out of the ones that come with the trigger you can find a trigger somewhere else and it is 57.95.
If you go to their site it is pretty hard to find this kit go to Calguns Forum called polymer80 Spectre 80% pistol frame.
and on Post Number 640 you will find a link that will take you straight there I would post a link here but I don't have that technology LOL
