I was at the shop the other day and one of these sparked my interest...any thoughts? It looked pretty fun and the stock was a standard rifle, not one of these god-awful Cal legal super wierd contraptions. The price was right too at about $500. Whaddaya think- are these good/bad, junk/quality, .223 or 7.62? Thanks for the feedback!

Saigas are great guns, although I personally wouldn't pay $500 for one. It's just an AK with a facelift. But if you do want to get one, look for a dimpled receiver, and look for 7.62x39. Ammo is cheaper and arguably more effective.

I love my Saiga .223. Fun to shoot, pure Russian, CA legal (despite what some ignorant out of state vendors may tell you) and still a bargain. Just wish I could order or use 20/30 rnd. mags with it. I got mine in .223 because I already loaded for that caliber, but if I were to do it again, I'd probably go with 7.62x39. Head over to the Saiga-12 forum (but come back here!) to learn more.

I have one and they are a good gun i got over 6 months ago. I would recommend it since its a cheap gun and one of the few magazine feed guns in CA. I spent about 350 dollars so that one is overpriced. Get 7.62x39, cheap ammo and with small mods you can except AK pre ban or 10 round ak mags. Also if you move out of state or law change you can make it look just like a real AK.

Shop around cause they can be found cheaper.

The magazines are horrendously expensive, and if you add a bullet guide to allow you to use AK mags, you have to put US parts on for 922(r) compliance.

Who cares what the MMG looks like it works and feels great.

I love my Saiga and would recommend one to others. There is no way I would spend $500 on one. Look around, I got mine from DDs Ranch for $249.99 shipped to my FFL. Prices have went up on them since I bought mine, but I know they haven't doubled.

What would be the differences regarding legality from a saiga 7.62 to a ca compliant ak, like a saiga 103 conversion or a hdi or lancaster ak which complies with the law

922(r). A standard Saiga is compliant with 922(r), but if you do a conversion you have to add US parts.

There have been some good deals ($10-12/mag), but the "normal" price is $30.

A 7.62x39 or .223 Saiga shouldn't cost more than $375.

Yeah, got a deal on the mags....but got the shaft on the rifles 379$ each.

BTW I have convinced another vendor to configure and ship Cal legal Saiga S-12's.
It only took a couple of e-mails and some info that I dug up about CADOJ. There not very forthcoming about the latest amendments to CA gun laws. They're spreading FUD and scaring out of state dealers.

I bought my Saiga 7.62 for 299$ new a month or two ago in the 20 inch barrel and am very happy with it. You can buy some 30 rounders for it if you live out of state for 20 bucks, so the mags are average. The stock mags though will cost about 18 bucks a pop. I bought like 4 of them. The gun was out of the box accurate with the iron sights and was everything i hoped for.

Took mine out yesterday for the first time. Prices jumped $80-100 in the past 6 months. Actually more accurate than I thought it would be. Fun rifle, but try to get one cheap everybody is jacking up the prices.
