If you had the choice between the Baer custom carry in 9mm, or an STI Marauder 2011 in 9mm for the same price, what one would you go with?

Nighthawk is a great gun...minus the one 9mm I put my hands on. I am asking about these two specifically though:)

Baer

I am not a fan of the Sti half and half type frames

Tough choice. Go Baer! I like their reputation of being a no frills custom hand built for hard use.

However a CZ would be a better 9mm platform imo. Have you tried that yet?

Get the Baer and instead of shooting limited minor, use the Baer to shoot uspsa SS minor.

I did a lot of work on a Baer to bring the trigger fit (sloppy) and trigger pull up to the standard of an Infinity pistol (2 pc frame).

The Baer is a great gun, but a lot of the non-essentials (trigger fit, pull weight) were looked over. On paper, that gun still shot 1/2" @ 50 yards!

If you shoot USPSA Limited Division go with a STI in 40 unless you plan to fit an extra upper for it. If you ever shoot matches out of state you can use high caps.

+1 for the Baer.

I like both. But my vote is for STI also. It does give you a different option for out of state use.

Each gun can compete in.

Les Baer CC 9mm:
IDPA ESP
USPSA Single stack Classic
USPSA Limited 10 - minor PF

STI Marauder 9mm:
IDPA ESP
USPSA Limited 10 - minor PF
USPSA Limited - minor PF
Ideal for 3 Gun due to mag capacity.

Since when does the whore say or? :) I've no experience with either, but it sounds like the STI is more geared for competition. A Baer in 9mm would be interesting to have though. I've not seen one in person, just the run of the mill 45ACP (which I have and enjoy very much).

If it weren't for competition, I'd say the Baer, but since you're gonna compete with it, the STI.

I've shot both, and the answer will depend on you. As a 1911 person, you know the issues with mass-produced 1911s out of the box. The STIs are no different. You will more than likely need to have the trigger done, and replace a few small items to your liking. The Baer will shoot better and be more reliable out of the box, but with some minor loving touches from any reputable gunsmith, you should have much more fun with the STI.

Both will need a little love out of the box. ButI agree Bug..this is really going to be a game gun and a class gun. Ive owned STI and Baer. Love both.

Whore,
This is the closest thing I have to a Marauder. Its a STI 9mm Tactical with a Freedom Gun Works trigger job. They fitted the SVI trigger, stippled, double undercut and painted the grips. I used this for 3 gun, Steel Challenge and USPSA Limited minor. Very fun gun. You will enjoy the Marauder, it might need a little trigger attention.

Good choice. I have an STI and I like both the gun and the company. Their customer support is top notch, in my opinion. Also, unlike Ruger, STI will send guns back to owners in CA even if the gun falls off the DOJ list. They support their customers and the sport.

The STI, but for the joy of just shooting or just as a carry weapon my choice would be the Baer.

Are you going to be shooting it just for fun? As you are not going to be very competitive shooting Limited minor unless you can shoot all alphas while matching speed with the guys shooting major.

I know STI suppose to build quality. But I've always been a Les Baer guy. But like the rest probably can't go wrong with either.

STI too much race for me.

I would lean toward the STI for the faster mag change speed alone.

Not having to deal with Baer's tight slide fit is just a bonus

You should've chosen not to drop out of the 5th grade. Nobody even mentioned the thing you seem to repeat in every thread regardless if it even has anything to do with it. Which is the logical choice? You mention two brands singularly.

Here's how it works in real life. When someone ask you, "Do you like hamburgers or pizza better?" You don't don't say "blue."

My recommendation is the STI but it is biased as I have a Marauder in .40 that has been flawless so far with no mods required. Only complaint I have is the factory 10 round magazines are more like 9 rounders. If you shoot outside Commie-Fornia at all the standard capacity mags are a huge plus and it's a no brainer to me.
