View Full Version : 25-06 twist rate?

Whats the best twist rate for a 25-06 barrel? I plan to shoot mostly larger bullets 115's 118's and the like. Is a 1:10 good enough are a 1:9 better? Is the 25-06 really to much overbore? Does it eat barrels fast? I know too many questions, but don't really like the .243 and i'm looking for something to fill that niche.

Glad to see someone else likes this round.
I have a Ruger 77 target model, it uses a 1 in 10" twist and a Savage 112, don't know the twist on that one. I have no problems with up to the 115s or so - really don't use them much, they seems to like the 75 & 85 grain Hornadys mostly.
I don't think it's overbore, but I don't shoot it often enough to know about barrel life. A 260 Remington is probably a better overall choice, but for 100 to 300 yard shooting I don't see much difference between the two.
I have a 6mm Remington, bought the 25.06 for pretty much the same reason you're looking at it - a little more "oomph" but still able to shoot all day long without much recoil.
