Forgot to mention in my Oak Tree Gun Club range report that they had several examples, New, not selloffs, of Mossberg-branded rifles. They seemed like very nice Ďbargainí rifle packages. Decent optics and very plain synthetic stocks, at prices in the $350-400 range.
Iíd been thinking about a Savage 110GXP .30-06 - http://www.savagearms.com/110gxp3.htm and thought its $650 was a good deal.
Had no idea Mossberg was in the rifle business. http://www.mossberg.com/products/default.asp?id=27&display=feat

Iím most interested in getting a decent scoped bolt-action rifle soon, than getting a very good rifle later (or too late). Some basic deer hunts in the sierras and target shooting.
Iím a fairly good rifleman, so Iím more concerned about actual flaws / shortcomings, than the performance margin between these lower-end rifles and those costing 3-4x as much. That price differerntial wonít make me 3-4x more accurate.

one of my HP shooters (retired OPD) bought one for elk hunting out of state. with factory ammo it will hold a 4" group at 200yds. He took a REAL nice elk this past winter with it.. The mossberg rifles are just a basic hunting rifle that was designed to see a box or 2 of ammo a year.........

Other than that, I can shoot 1 hole group at 100 yds with my own reloads.

I've got a couple of old Mossberg .22lr rifles that shoot as well as any .22 I've seen. Mossberg makes rifles that can shoot! Does anyone know what kind of gun was the first gun that Mossberg produced?
