Does this mean they should be shut down and have there license pulled? How does it looks when you are guilty of the same thing you are trying to punish others for?

You can forget about justice, or any sense of "turn around is fair play". The ATF flips their nose and finger at the gun owning public, and the public in general at every opportunity. They have no accountablility to the public, in fact, their actions are more like facists. If there is one Fed LEO agency which should be dissolved, and leaders indicted, and sentanced for treason, its the ATF.

And this only accounts for items that went 'missing' which were bought by the BATFE....
makes you wonder what happens to the stuff that they 'confiscate'.... no purchase records to hold accountable.... and you can always say "oh those were destroyed"

Just imagine BSP, CWS etc. coming up missing a fraction of this ? Sounds like the ever familiar double standard to me.

In a Sept. 10 letter responding to the audit, ATF acting Director Michael J. Sullivan said his agency "agrees or partially agrees with most of the recommendations."
"We are revising our procedures of reporting losses of weapons or laptops," Sullivan said.
I have an idea that doesn't require revising anything.
STOP LOSING THINGS!!!
I find is funny that they "partially agree" with recommendations to put a bandaid on a compound fracture.
"Its okay if we lose stuff guys, just um... write down all the stuff you lose."
Hell, I get pissed when one of my employees loses their black marker and asks for a new one. I'd fire the crap out of someone if they lost a laptop, let alone a machine gun or a grenade.

I'd seriously doubt they have 'lost' all of those things. Methinks many of them have sticky fingers and know there will be no repercussions to their actions.
damn atf agents stealing mp5's and selling them or keeping them!

Not if you work for the government. Then it's just an excuse for a vacation.

Pretty much the way the ATF see's it, do as we say not as we do....

Additionally, ATF employees did not report 13 of the 76 lost weapons... to internal affairs as required.
I'm using this as a talking point the next time our legislature passes a bill that would criminalize law-abiding gun owners who fail to report lost and/or stolen guns.

That's because, in their opinion, they are the only ones profesional enough to have guns.

The audit found that the ATF lost .52 weapons per 1,000 employees, compared to .29 at the FBI and .28 at the DEA. Now I just have an image in my head of federal law officers walking around saying oops lost another gun.

We would have to assume they are talking about agency issued guns, what about privately purchased or not yet reported. I am willing to bet the number is even higher.

I can imagine the FBI and DEA losing a weapon chasing criminals like on foot, through the woods, you know like the movies.....
Does ATF ever do that? I thought they were accountants in a tax agency? :-)

Sounds like weapons lost/stolen by individual Officers. Believe it or not people target law enforcement Officers for burglaries because they know there are guns. As they do citizens for the same reason. Guns are like gold.

Hmm, of all the things to find in a parking lot, a 10mm MP5 would be probably be one of my favorites. Do they still make the MP5 in 10mm and .40? I want one!

Fixed. Now I have to wonder how many packs of cigarettes have been "lost" and set off fires, or gallons of hooch "lost" that ended up in the bellies of underage drinkers.
