Faculty, yes with training.

Students, if they were in military (JROTC does not count) or took a gun safety class or some other method to determine competency (sp?)

Trust me, you don't want some college kids (the ones I've seen) to be carrying if they don't know what the heck they are doing. Especially the drunk ones...fighting over a girlfriend, frat boy rivalry, etc.

My $0.02.

Campus carry will undoubtedly tilt things in the favor of the pro 2A movement more than any other single thing we can do outside of CA. That is why the opposition fights against it so hard and why we absolutely must win it at all costs.

Trust me just because you were in the military doesn't make you any more competent to carry a gun then anyone else
I have known plenty of examples

and Im all for a required class for all partys involved on this one
just dont make it too expensive or long
the 4 hour utah would make a good model

Students should be treated the same as any member of the community. If they are old enough and qualified to carry outside college, they should be old enough and qualified enough to carry inside.

I voted no. Practicing your rights on campus. That is just insane. What next, practicing free speech. ;) (Sarcasm)

:fud:

In which state can someone obtain a CCW license without going through training and proving their competency? The idea that allowing CCW on campus means that there will suddenly be throngs of immature, stressed out, hungover kids packing and brandishing like 50 Cent is total FUD. I don't want anyone carrying if they don't know what they are doing, which is why there are licenses and strict training requirements (except in Vermont or Alaska, I guess). I don't see why college campuses should be any different than train stations or shopping malls at Christmas. As far as drunk frat boys go, in most places you absolutely aren't allowed to carry if you've had something to drink, or if you're in a place that derives most of its revenue from alcohol sales (e.g., a bar).

The type of person you describe isn't particularly apt to care if there's a campus rule against carrying concealed and frankly isn't even a part of the debate except in cases of fearmongering by the anti groups or the MSM. The debate is over whether law-abiding, reasonable people who have gone through the process to legally obtain a CCW should be prevented from using that CCW permit on a college campus. To me, it's really a no-brainer. I for one am glad that it will be another decade until the oldest of my kids is in college, because that gives us some time to persuade many colleges to allow CCW. I don't believe I'll be sending my kids to a college that doesn't.

Just as anyone qualified to carry outside of California should be able to carry at will inside of California. I've long been saying that, yet for some absurd reason it doesn't seems to stick with too many people. Students should be treated the same as any member of the community. If they are old enough and qualified to carry outside college, they should be old enough and qualified enough to carry inside.

My reading of the LAW says that if you've got a permit and have a legitimate reason to be on campus, you can carry...student, teacher, parent, whatever. No problem with the law.

However, students have an enrollment relationship and teachers have an employment relationship that goes beyond the law. Being legal may not save you from loosing your job or your seat if you're made.
