Looks like it's progressing well. I wonder who's going to sell this one.

Yeah, except what is the plastic looking protrusion thing sticking out on the left side of the rifle around where the ejection port would be in a left handed config in this pic:
http://www.magpul.com/pics/massoud7.jpg

I'm guessing the grey screwed in cover is for switching from right to left handed ejection. The tan protrusion doesn't look like it could be a charging handle given its mounting area, but it sure does look like one. What is that thing?

I got to play with the first Massoud at SHOT in Feb. After holding the Masada and Massoud, and the SCAR-L and SCAR-H, I will beg borrow or steal to get a SCAR-L and SCAR-H.

I no longer have interest in the Masada or Massoud.

DAMN IT! Another thing to wait for! The ACR and SCAR-L aren't even here yet!

As soon as I worked the controls on the masada I was done and off looking for another gun to fondle.

Keep up the accessories magpul, leave the other stuff alone.

Just for comparison sake. Here's the SCAR heavy.
http://sgcusa.com/images/large/SCAR-Heavy%20Standard.jpg

The ACR- Adaptive Combat Rifle is now being built and sold by Bushmaster. I'm definately getting one. I think the Massoud is a fine design also, but I'm tempted by the FN brand, and who couln't resist buying something named "SCAR". Anybody know the pricepoint of the SCAR heavy? Is it being imported and then modified with US parts?

It's no longer called the Masada. Bushmaster is building it and it's been renamed the ACR - Adaptive Combat Rifle. It's scheduled to go on sale the first quarter of 2009. Price point of the ACR is under $1,500.

That's the charging handle. I don't think the ejection port side can be changed.

AR based .308's are so "last week". As black rifle addict, I need a new fix every year. :) And I already have one.

So I guess this is the future of all small arms to come. Ugly looking mold injected thermo plastic outer shell with enough rails to attached drumsticks, cell phones, car keys, coffee mugs, and other GPS junk devices all over them. Well I don't like em. Yeah, they are neat and innovative but just call me old fashioned, I still love rifles with blued barrels and pretty wood. At the price of just one of these new rifles I could go buy multiple "classic" looking rifles. I say no thank you to these way overpriced plastic guns.

The SCAR is DoD tested and SOCOM approved.
Pretty much a no-brainer which one to get.......

I don't know about yalls, but that scar heavy looks like monkey butt. The long barrel and chubby thick furniture looks so unevenly gross.

I think the massoud has a better profile, granted its not the hottest thing ever. I think if it looks good it will shoot and feel good. Just my way of thinking and so far that line of thinking has not failed me yet.

Pryde

Ok so basically you are saying that the Magpul is a better rifle just because it "looks" better. Or are you saying that anything that looks good also "feels" good? (whatever that means)

If you ask me I'd rather have the one that works instead of the one that looks cool....

I went to SHOT with a Masada and HK 417 at the top of my to get list. I thought the pictures of the SCAR were just ugly.

Then I held the SCAR.

OMG. Pictures do not do it justice. I left SHOT with the SCAR-L and SCAR-H at the top of my list, and the Masada and HK 417 no longer on my list at all.

To each their own. That is simply my experience.

(And I know the Masada has been renamed the ACRXCRAXRMSARM4STG. I just refuse to use the mother@#$%ing stupid three letter retarded acronym that is almost the exact same as every other new rifles totally stupid three letter acronym name.)

Handled SCAR. Handled Massada (who names a rifle for a mass suicide?)

Want SCAR
Even with reciprocating bolt.

I'm not saying that the Masada is any better of a rifle but I believe that the Magpul guys stated that they put an emphasis on not only a rifle that would work but be very ergonomic as well, and with that, it has come out looking a tad better in my opinion. It looks like it feels good to hold. Of course to each their own.

I really do hope that the rest of firearms industry can come up with better stuff. The use of a tool as a quick change barrel set up for the SCAR is not as cool as the tool less quick change barrel that the Masada uses with the same amount of deviation from change of zero. The polymer stock and furniture is great, but the weapons designers have these rifles being too bulky. They also have the rifles trying to accomplish too many tasks. I think that they need a create a better round, but of course that would not work because the amount of money that would needed to change the current inventory and the change in standardization for the US, NATO and the like.

Agreed on the part of using the ACR name, it just makes the rifle sound bland but I think bushmaster was trying to put a more PC name. I think naming it Masada was cool in that they named it after a group of people who would not surrender. Massoud was good name too in that they named it after the "lion of panjshir" who was pro western and assasinated by al qaeda. He wes battling the Taliban and Al qaeda before we had boots in afghanistan.

i don't hope so much that more models come out but that a new standard is adapted so we can have another ar/ak/fal/m1a group of guns that is well like, well understood, has plenty of mods and will never be in fear of going the way of the dodo.

Mr. Joshua

And if Obamarama happens, you'll never see the Masada/ACR. Way to go Magpul and Bushmaster for taking forever to get them out.
