I'm proud of this project.

It is a ZM upper which is why it can use the folding stock. It has a 14.5" barrel with welded brake. The entire violin case is only two and a half feet long. It is a really compact package, and it doesn't even weigh very much (more than a violin, yes, but it's still surprisingly light).

And just to cover my butt, here is a closeup pic that shows the lower in this picture is completely stripped. There aren't even takedown pins attaching the upper to the lower.

In other news, the CA assembly recently announced they are again postponing peripheral matters like the budget and convening a special session to discuss the dangers of opaque instrument cases being used by terrorists and subversives to transport weapons or even dirty bombs. CA state senator John Q. Nanny held a press conference on SB1984, a bill he recently drafted that would require businesses to sell only transparent plastic instrument cases after January 2010. A spokesperson for the DHS lauded his decision as being proactive in pursuing a safe tomorrow. For the children.

LOL, phew. I was about to ask "so how does it meet the 30" requirement if the case itself is longer than the rifle, and just barely hits 30"?" :p

Looks good, too bad we can't really make one here like that.

Like.

You need to come up with something that fits and belongs in the bow holders.

Actually you can even put a 1919 in a tuba case, along with a few other rifles.:D

1919s belong in golf bags, not tuba cases!

Ok so what is the length of that w/ the stock folded? If it's short how much more would you need? A longer barrel could help, but would it still fit w/ a longer barrel, depending on how much you need?

Been interested in picking up a ZM upper for a while now. Please do report on how it works once you've had a chance to fire it....

With the way it sits, I'd think it might make 30" with a longer barrel. Maybe trim the PG down a hair so it sits deeper an further to the rear. Thin/remove the lining on either side and it might just make it.

My rifle is 25.75" long with the stock folded.

I've had my ZM for a few years now. It shoots great! When you shoot it feels a little different that a normal AR because the buffer spring in around the gas tube under the handguard. I describe it as a little sharper than a normal AR. Very little muzzle rise. I've read that ZM's in full auto are much more controllable than M4's and M16's. I haven't been able to verify that though :(
