Only one month away to general season....it's my first time there. Also, anyone ever chucker hunt there at the same time (if it's chucker season)?

I hunted there several years ago. The best advice I can give for both deer and chukar is to look for water, epecially with the drought going on. A call is best for chukar as they are a little hard to sneak up on.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply....I've never been chukar hunting before. Any recommendation on a Chukar call to buy?

Calling and hunting chukar is easy. Drive a dirt road through a canyon. Spook up some chukar. Watch them go up the cliff. Swear. Get out of truck. Get and load gun. Climb up cliff while swearing. Watch them fly down to your truck. Swear again. Climb down. Watch Chukar run away. Swear and repeat. The swearing is actually the calling.

This is the way I hunted chukar. I did get a few doing this, but wore myself out in the process. Not sure on calls, just seen piles of shells from other hunters who called them in.

I've bought this one. Haven't really had a chance to use it yet so I can't tell you if it works or not.

I'm hunting X9b this year. X9c is big country, you'll do a lot of miles looking for animals but there are some nice bucks to be had there. Chukar have been far and few for last year, and indications aren't promising for this upcoming season. Make sure that you are in California proper before taking any game, the state border out there in the desert can be a bit difficult to define. X9c can be good if we get a bit of colder weather to bring the game down. Good luck!
