Is it legal to buy unassembled 30 round magazines (not as replacement parts), and convert them to 10/30 round mags before you actually assemble them?

you cant replace anything if you did not own 30 rd magazines prior to the ban.:chris:

The only 30 rd mags I've seen for sale are for replacement parts. You can buy 10/30 magazines from gun shops. I don't know if its legal to make your own 10/30 mags.

Just as long as these said parts are never made to where they can hold 11 rounds or more at any time you're fine.
Having possession of high cap parts isn't illegal, having possession of a post ban high cap body isn't illegal, it's when these parts are assembled into a new magazine (without having replaced another) it becomes illegal.
There are some firearms that are legal in CA that don't have 10 round magazines in existance so some magzines have to be converted from higher capacities and modifying them is the only way.

Yes, just make sure they are only capable of holding ten rounds before you assemble them.

Yes it's legal. Just make sure you don't assemble the magazine(s) into working magazines before you complete the modification to limit the capacity to 10 rounds or less and no more than 10 rounds.

Ok, thanks for the info guys! My first AR is almost complete..I'm just waiting on that 10 day rule for my lower. 10 days might as well be 10 years. :\

Do I have to remind anyone how absolutely inane these laws are?

If we haven't turned back this capacity ban in eight years, what hope is there for the future?

what happens if you use a 30rd mag at the range? do they check the mags if it looks like a hi-cap? even if it is a 10rd that looks like a 30?

if you use a 30rd at the range in a reg AW then nothing, if you use it in a featureless build nothing, if you use it in a BB/P50, then you could/would be asking for trouble.
