yep you are right. but this fight is not for one service to win. all services are involved and reaquires teamwork and that goes for the Marines also. there is no I in teamwork. either you work together or die alone your choice.

the choices are somewhat one sided and should have included all of the services.

Thank you for calling the United States Army.

I'm sorry, but all of our units are out at the moment, or are otherwise
engaged. Please leave a message with your country, name of organization,
the region, the specific crisis, and a number at which we can call you. As
soon as we have sorted out Iraq, Korea, China, Afghanistan, the hurricanes,
marching up and down the streets of Washington, D.C., and compulsory
"Consideration Of Others" training, we will return your call. Please speak
after the tone, or if you require more options, please listen to the
following numbers:

If your crisis is small, and close to the sea, press 1 for the United
States Marine Corps.

If your concern is distant, with a temperate climate and good hotels,
and can be solved by one or two low risk, high altitude bombing runs,
please press 2 for the United States Air Force. Please note this service
is not available after 1630 hours, or on weekends. Special consideration
will be given to customers requiring satellite or stealth technology who
can provide additional research and development funding.

If your inquiry concerns a situation which can be resolved by a bit of
gray flannel, bunting, flags and a really good marching band, please
write, well in advance, to the United States Navy. Please note that
Tomahawk missile service is extremely limited and will be provided on a
first-come, first-served basis.

If your inquiry is not urgent, please press 3 for the Rapid Deployment
Force.

If you are in real hot trouble, please press 4, and your call will be
routed to the United States Army Special Operations Command. Please note
that a compulsory credit check will be required to ensure you can afford
the inherent TDY costs. Also be aware that USASOC may bill your account
at any time and is not required to tell you why, as it will be classified.

If you are interested in joining the Army and wish to be shouted at,
paid little, have premature arthritis, put your wife and family in a
condemned hut miles from civilization, are prepared to work your *** off
daily, risking your life, in all weather and terrain, both day and night,
and whilst watching Congress erode your original benefits package, then
please stay on the line. Your call will shortly be connected to a bitter
passed-over Army Recruiter in an old strip-mall down by the Post Office.

Have a pleasant day, and thank you again for trying to contact the
United States Army.

He said "Service" not which part of the Department of Homeland Security

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is a branch of the United States armed forces and one of seven uniformed services. In addition to being a military branch at all times, it is unique among the armed forces in that it is also a maritime law enforcement agency (with jurisdiction both domestically and in international waters) and a federal regulatory agency. It is an agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security during peacetime and of the Department of the Navy at wartime[2].

I have to disagree. On average the AF had better looking females, but the BEST looking females I ever saw were Marines, although they also had the worst looking. At least for enlisted types. The Army had the best looking Officers, but ya can't touch those anyways.

i have one more offensive that i cannot post.

the Marines are whiners too. i saw a Marine CO chase vehicles at my work for going the speed limit on post. they complained about cars and trucks speeding by there Co. area at 5 am. when nobody was around. so they put in speed bumps to slow people down. result torn up by truck traffic bringing in equipment on a daily basis.

as for the Army Green Beret's are the best no BS outfit in the Army.

but like many Marines they left the Corp to join the Army. go figure on that one. i know more Marines in the Army than in the Marines.

i have a question for you since you have no dept. of your own at the Pentagon. What is it like to be under the Dept. of the Navy?

i disagree with the Marines go it alone attitude. we are in a fight now. fight together or die alone. your choice. one team one fight. no one branch of service will win this war and the Marines are no exception to this.

I think you're refering to HR5122 also known as the John Warner Defense Authorization Act which was signed by the Pres in 2006. I thought the changes to The Posse Comitatus Act made by HR5122 were repealed in 2008. See HR 4986: National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008. So Posse Comitatus is back.

There's nothing special about being a soldier. Contrary to what some think, basic combat training isn't really about "weeding" anybody out. It's about transforming a civilian into a soldier. Remember, there was a time when every man served their country when they came of age. Now the Army is "all volunteer" but that doesn't mean much more than "open for enlistment".

Great, you like the Army. I was an Army Brat and have had the misfortune of going to some army schools (I.E. Basic Airborne). I have never seen so many "smart people" feel the need to completely **** all over their fellow human beings for no apparent reason than I have experienced with the Army. The last school I attended with some former Army Tacom *** clown Instructors I had to tell the guy to stop yelling at us and this was in his intro; if he continued we were going to get up and walk the **** out. Fact of the matter is the whole Army mentality is bizarre to say the least.

Again, it can be hit or miss from one unit to the next, but as a whole the USMC has the Army beat in the realm of conventional warfare hands down.

I can see some Jars jumping ship to other branches because it is so competitive in the Corps to make rank. If you can't cut it in the Lions Den some will down grade to the dog pack.

Anyway, I am glad some of you are happy with being in the Army, thank you for your service (seriously thank you) someone has to do the **** jobs.

The differences in the branches of the service:

When the Marines are told to secure a building, they call in an air strike, assault the building and occupy it until relieved.

When the Army is told to secure a building, they surround it and only allow entry with the proper password.

When the Navy is told secure a building, they turn off the lights and lock the door.

When the Air Force is told to secure a building, they get a 3 year lease with an option to buy.

Bill_in_SD
09-23-2008, 9:30 AM
The Navy has their own air force (and it is portable), their own army (USMC) and some boats with cool missile technology. Oh, and they also have Submarines and the Navy Seals. It is all about power projection that keeps the world in balance......

I do have to give the USMC props, even the desk jockeys can hit stuff with an M16 that you thought was not possible at some ridiculous distance with iron sights.

As an active Marine, currently working in a joint environment, in Iraq, RIGHT NOW, I have to say, the Army is certainly a unique animal.

I mentioned in another thread that Marine Captains are being offered a 4k bonus. The Army Captains told me I could get 35k coming over to the Army. I passed.

After this experience, I am very glad I am in the Marines.
