All the mini-14s ranch rifles come with one inch rigs. M1-As should come like that!

You can get 30mms form Ruger for extra jack.
No sights on the rifle. Got two regular leupold scopes I took off 22s... one will be going on there before range time

The new Target mini shoots MOA. I love ARs too, but you can't just diss a whole family of rifles. I mean, you can, and old mini's deserve it, but "crap" is an appellation reserved for Lorcin .25 autos and Plastic pistols made in Florida.

Would you mind saying which magazine? In case I want to check out your articles?

Yeah I know I just dont have a too high opinion of mini-14. The target model is pretty nice except you have to mess with the harmonic tuner for different loads.

Also my experience with mini-14 have not been very good. To include having a rear sight detach itself from rifle after a few magazines doesnt really give you a good impression.

1) I don't have the patience to mess with the harmonics -- everyone at the MINI-14 sight says they shoot way better than the regular minis because of the heavier barrel already --
2) They used the Mini-14 on the A-TEAM!
3) Ranch rifle with rings = easy secure scoping. Can't see iron sights anymore anyway.

I've listed them before:

American Handgunner. Guns. Guns Combat Annual. G&As Combat Tactics. Tactical Weapons. Glock Perfection Annual. Barrett Combat Rifles.

There's something in any one every month. I also take the pictures for Handguns magazine sometimes.

story one:
And ex-rancher friend of mine in Colorado ran Cougar hunts on his land. He had eleven mini-14s for the workers and the guys that didn't bring a gun. He swore by -- not AT -- them.
Story two:
A friend rents guns to the movies -- BIG movies you've seen. His AC556s run more reliably than ANY AR he rents. I've drained 30 round mags at "trigger hold back for the whole mag" full auto and never - never a FTF or FTE

Sounds like you got a lemon and it soured you on the whole genre. I hope you give one a try again.

Remember: Light. Legal.

I owned a Mini a few years ago. I had a beater K98 mauser that grouped as well or better with iron sights and Yugo surplus ammo. Real story, not a lie. Sold the Mini. IMHO, there is something wrong with that platform. It is just not accurate enough. It is accurate enough for a SHTF scenario but not fun at the range for me. I would love to try out the target model but my past experience keeps me from buying one.

I've got a 80's era ranch rifle and I've run at least 5k rounds through it and I don't recall it ever FTF or FTE. It is not MOA but I can keep it 5-7" at 100 yards and that is plenty accurate for what I need. Of course if I get attacked by a company of heavily armed chipmunks at 250 yards I may pay the price for being so content-time will tell...

Although I have never had a Mini-14, I do have a mini-30 and that thing is pretty accurate. When I had a scope on it i was able to hit golf balls at 75 yards with not much problem, 100 yards was a bit tougher to get consistent hits (ammo). I only had reliability issues after not cleaning it thoroughly after a couple thousand rounds or so. I really cant recall ANY malfunctions prior to it getting rediculously gunked up.

yeah, not crap. Thanks. BUT, I have sent many "target" minis out the doors, and ALL of those customers have reported larger than MOA accuracy. That's the truth. From expereince..

If you want .223 moa accuracy, get an AR or a bolt gun.

I am one of the biggst mini fans around- believe me. It is my go-to gun. I will NEVER claim that it is inherently accurate. It is however brimming with practical accuracy- that is, to place shots on a human sized target at identifiable ranges with scary speed and reliability. Mission specific.
