A Big 5 this morning, I noticed in the back corner a Mini-14 on the rack.

After asking to look at it, I had a brief conversation with the manager; she said that they were starting on a trial basis and this was the only store that had one. I applauded the efforts to expand their selection in semi-auto rifles.

PS It was the wood one and retailed for $739. The store was PCH @Long Beach.

$700 for a mini 14? What a ripoff just like the m1 rifles for thousand.

Yeah, those were the days... Not that I'm defending Big 5, but that price is not all that extreme, especially considering that they weren't buying them in any quantity.. Minis have gone up folks.

I've been looking at getting a new Mini 30, already have an older 14 - range of prices at local gun shops is from about $650.00 to $830.00. So I don't find Big 5's price out of line.

The guys on the perfect Union swear that the Target Mini is REALLY accurate -- mine showed up here at Kings and my ten days is up tomorrow but they forgot to put the CFLC letter in the box -- damn! I have to wait until everyone opens to straighten it out!

meh.

a hundred or so dollars is not too bad of a penalty to pay for being able to handle the gun before you buy it, and not having to pay transfer fees(which I think FFLs charge to receive gun) and such.

not saying I would be happy to pay for a 700+ dollar Mini 14, but in a day and age where Walmart is stopping selling ammo in many locations, big 5 starting to sell Mini 14s is not a bad thing, really.

we ain't got no Bass Pro shops around here.

Yeah. If one of the new Minis with the redesigned barrel show up at my local Big 5 for $700, I'd probably buy it.

Heck, people pay $600 for plastic handguns. A hundred bucks more for a decent semi auto rifle is not that bad of a deal. Minis just don't seem to get respect around these parts.

PS - yes, I own Saigas. :)

Santa Barbara Big 5 had their ffl revoked for a straw purchase. It is not by choice that they no longer sell firearms.

Wait till it goes on sale, nothing at big 5 is worth buying until its on sale, then its not too bad, they tend to have decent C&R deals, and i get to inspect what i buy, and they have layaway with no fee, so i can just keep adding rifles as they go on sale before transferring them all. I really can't complain about them.

Wait yes i can, its a horribly boring place to work unless you get to work the gun counter.

Well, the as. manager liked guns so i never got to have any fun. He was weird though, he wouldn't buy the old guns we sold because they weren't "bring backs", like they weren't real wartime weapons or something. He got up said when i said that most people don't care about that especially if they want to shoot them. Oh and this one weird shoe guy i worked with had this really nice enfield that he put on layaway, but decided not to buy it because the stock wasn't the right color, right being the light colored stock in Call of Duty 2. Oh it was one of those Savage made Lend Lease guns with a oh so nice walnut stock. No i didn't get because some customer grabbed it before i came back to work and found out he let it go. Think they were on sale for like $129 back then. I'm full of angst now.

Yeah I saw that Mini-14 the other day at the traffic circle in Long Beach. I am awaiting my new prescription for my glasses so I can't see amazingly right now. Anyways I was looking at their selection and I thought I noticed a Mini hidden behind a bunch of other .22's and stuff. I had to squint to make out the name and price and stuff so they aren't advertising it too well. You would think that a trial gun would be up front on the rack.

I bought an overpriced used mini-14 at The Stockade for $550 and I was even surprised that Big 5 was asking that much.

My mini has AK like accuracy all day long. I can shoot minute of man out to 300 yds with it no problem. The problem with most mini owners is that they also own AR's and that spoils them. I like the mini for what it is a plinker but i'd trust my life to it with factory 20 rd mags, errr 10 rounders. I removed the old ranch sight and installed a M1 Carbine rear sight and it made a world of difference. The saiga has its advantages in certain areas but you got to do a conversion to it if you want it to look like an AK and install a bullet guide if you want reliability with AK mags, plus you have those stupid little holes in the receiver when you are done.

I just got an ad in the mail for a Kmini-14 5p ranch rifle on sale for $679. The KMini-14/20CP goes for $752. Big 5's price does'nt seem all tha thigh.
