I just received an email from On Point Firearms about custom Saiga's imported by Arsenal. Price is a bit much though.

We will have access to an exclusive new shipment of these Arsenal Saiga SGL10-01 Rifles-- built by the custom shop of the legendary Izhmash Factory in Russia! Sales start next week while supplies last for about $650.

milled recievers no?

No, this is a stamped receiver, but this is a True Russian mfg's rifle, and Arsenal Inc. is the importer for this model that has the AK74 Front end, barrel etc.

No, stamped receivers. I have a pdf attachment from the email showing a facts sheet but I don't know how to post it.

Some features:
Dimpled receivers in 7.62x39.
AK74 type front sight with threading and an AK74 muzzle brake.
Standard handguard retainer and handguard.
Arsenal US made hammer and disconnector.
Correct sight leaf graded and marked to 1000 meters.
Bayonet lug.

JeffM

Nope. Stamped. But dimpled, with standard AK furniture, threaded front sight base w/bayonet lug.

Knocks a lot of work off of doing a AK-103 build.

Anyone no if these are coming in this way or is Arsenal doing the work?

They forgot one step........convert to accept high cap ak mags once in the US.

They kept the crap buttstock! Not worth the 650 they are asking.

OK,I see a new hand guard, cleaning rod and a muzzle brake. Why is the price so inflated? There's still quite a bit of work left to bring it up to full evil specs.

I'm in, a bit pricey. Maybe it's for the izmash emblem on the trunnion.:D A group discount would be nice.

Both of my Saiga's are Russian, I thought I got screwed at 379 each.

What's so great about this over the Izmash Saiga?
Bulgarians make good guns (I've been to their factories) but ... 650 is absurd.

I'm thinking, if they knew about MMG's, they might be able to skip the sporter stock and keep it all original config for importation?

I got my RAA .308 Saiga from DD's Ranch for $369.23 shipped to my FFL.

Similar upgrades as the ones made to the above rifle can be purchased from Dinzagarms.com for under $240 total.

I don't know how much labor would be, but the work wouldn't be that hard to do.

The price seems a little inflated, but not much.

I would argue it's not inflated... Maybe I drink a little Arsenal Kool-Aid, but if you're gonna drink anyone's for AKs...

From what I understand, all the mods would be straightforward to do except for altering the receiver. Pressing off the gas block and installing the handguard retainer is tricky but doable. It's a great idea to import one configured like this, and I'd buy it if only it were around $450.

This had to happen of course; I picked up a couple of 'normal' Saigas for AK103 conversion just last thursday. Isn't that the way it always works? :)

I am interested in this variant, although the price seems a touch high. I'm curious as to why they just didn't finish the conversion and tack on another $100-150 to the selling price? I guess that they want to access the conversion market and yet not cannibalize sales of the existing SLR product line.

You're involved in too many group buys. :D

What I'm hoping for is for Arsenal to sell that Saiga US made hammer and disconnector. It'll be a huge improvement in the trigger pull.

That's the first thing I thought when I saw they did that...

Would be nice to have another option. I don't see it happening, though.

I agree it would've been nice if they'd just finish the conversion...

69Mach1, just get the Tapco converted trigger group from Dinzag Arms. I just put one in my 223 and it is a huge improvement over the stock trigger. Brian takes the Tapco parts and removes the trigger so it will work in an unconverted saiga. He also polishes the parts in the right places. Well worth the $70.

Thanks railroader. With Arsenal, there should be no 4-6 week wait, and of course mass production with a lower price point. Hopefully they will be selling the Saiga FCG soon.

If it does'nt take standard AK mags then it's almost worthless.

True for CA, unless you convert it to accept those preban high caps, but it doesn't matter in free States. They can go out and buy high cap Saiga mags.

There are far more AK magazines out there...with much more selection. A person outside of CA would just buy an actual AK instead of the saiga.

It's pretty tempting, a rare saiga.. Doesn't look to be available direct and no group buy is less appealing for me. A good engraver could add the izmash emblem to a trunnion. Some gunsmiths can dimple a non dimpled receiver.

The muzzle brake on this thing alone is about $100 retail from Arsenal. If they would eliminate that, the price would go down easier. This is for the hardcore AK collector. Once the backend is converted and it's modified to accept AK mags, what you have is a close to authentic AK rifle from the Motherland. I'm not that hardcore.......yet.

I am,:D Actually that front sight is for a 74 which is different from a 103. Technically not correct as is the pinning instead of spot welding which would be correct for mother Russia. :D Still it's a oll stamped arsenal which is rare and a first arsenal/saiga.

I wouldn't pay that price unless it takes standard AK mags. That's the big disadvantage of the Saigas. Why did they set it up to not take AK mags?

How much will the name behind the custom work effect the value of the rifle?

Who are the best choices for this, for that much coin I wouldnt feel comfortable doing it in my garage and messin it up!

Honestly, I was excited until I saw that $650 price tag. I guess at that price I would try to acquire an AZEX gun instead. They won't ship to CA, but they can be had through other mediums. Or put that $650 toward an FEG SA85 or one of Arsenals' Milled receiver guns. Otherwise, this thin looks set-up like any other Saiga with few options different, other than a better trigger.

True there are other options but as AK parts kits are drying up this isn't a bad deal for a nice Russian rifle......

Plus the Saigas have gone up over almost a 100 bucks a rifle in less than a year and they aren't going down.......maybe higher...

Not everyone is a do it yourself AK master........;)

Plus I believe that the rifle will come w/ a coupon for further upgrades that might complete the conversion but I am checking on that at the moment.........

the ones imported by arsenal have more of the features of the ak-103 since i couldn't decide whether to get a hendrson defense saiga conversion or an arsenal saiga i got both:) nick the one you showed the GIZ132 is the basic saiga. all saigas whether RAA or arsenal or wherever come from Izhmash. i hope this clarifies things.

I was just wondering what extra features are in it. I don't know as much about Saigas as I'd like. Well, I just ordered 3 basic ones, in .223 Rem, .308 Win, and 7.62x39, I should have them in a couple of weeks, with the 10 days wait and all. Basically, covered all the cheap and not likely to run out rounds. Now that the basics are covered, I'm curious as to what else is out there :)
