So in another thread I found out that my Mossberg New Haven 600AT is actually just a Mossberg 500 with a funky name. Since I was looking to buy a 590 I think I'm just going to take the one I have and make it more like the shotgun I want. Cheaper that way.

This is the shotgun I've got.

Anyway, this is the barrel I was looking to get, but I notice that it says that it's not compatible with extended mag tubes. (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=748383) How exactly do extended mag tubes work? Should I get a different barrel if I want to make a longer mag tube?

Also, if I pick up one of those Knoxx recoil reducing stocks, will it work with this shotgun since it's supposedly a Mossberg 500?

Thanks

The "New Haven" line of Mossberg shotguns was made by them for retailers like Montgomery Wards.

You can't add a mag extension to these shotguns because of the way the barrels connect to the mag tube. You can swap out the mag tube for a longer one, but then you are limited to only a 20" barrel. Mossberg 500 barrels (With the exception of the "Breacher" version) attach to the mag tube with a threaded captive bolt that is fixed to the barrel. This bolt threads into the end of the mag tube itself.

The Knoxx stock should fit your 600AT with no problems. If it is a pistol grip stock, you might have some issues operating the safety and the slide release without changing your grip on the gun (I know I do!).

Aren't 5 shots enough? I have the 500AT and just picked up an 18.5 barrel for $65.00. It works just fine. I doubt I will ever need to shoot someone more than 5 times.:43:

I just found this......You may want to take a look at the Maverick Arms web site. They are offering a 28" barrel for their M-88/M-500 that will fit an 8 round mag tube (Scroll down to the bottom of the page):
